1972 Door Edge Molding Placement

I just received the door edge molding for my 1972 Cutlass Supreme 442 Convertible. Problem is where exactly does it go? It does not fit the entire door but only a portion. Is ther a guide to tell me whre the top and bottom of the edge molding goes? Don't want to tear up the paint job while experimenting.

Please help!!!!!!!

I bought a set for my 71 also but am afraid to put on because I may damage paint. Mine are metal repops that appear to fit only one way because of the contour, I think they will only go on in one place. Do you have a set of plastic universal door edges? Hopefully someone who has installed them will chime in.

OK, here's the trim piece I think your asking about. If I'm on the wrong track let me know. The photos are of a 1971 Cutlass Supreme door, and the door edge trim is about 4 inches from the bottom, and about 2 1/2" from the top inside edge. Let me know if you need to see any other views. John

2blu442,

You are a lifesaver. 4" from the bottom worked perfectly. Bit nerve wracking as these metal edge moldings want to peel the paint as you install but they are in place and look great.

Thanks for the help.

Cool! I'm glad it worked out well.

Greg,

I just installed my metal door edge guards. Used 2blu442 measurements, decided which molding went to which door and carefully used rubber mallet. Started at the bottom and worked my way up, slowly. Yes, there was a bit of scratching. After installation used Meguiar's Scratch X20 and removed all traces of installation.
Worked for me! Good Luck.
