1972 Cutlass Conv't Relay or Circuit Breaker

Hello, I am a newbie with a 1972 Cutlass convertible and the top works but recently in operating the top the motor quit and then started up again.I have researched this somewhat and have been told it is either a circuit breaker or the motor is overheating and needs to be replaced.
My question(s) : is there a relay or circuit breaker used on Culass and is the motor a suspect which is a possibility.
Thanks for any help.

Welcome!
Circuit breaker is in the fuse box - upper left corner. It plugs in like a fuse and should be 40A.
There is no top relay on 72 Olds A-body 'vert's - the dash switch passes the full current.
Does 'exercising' the switch make it work again? If so, the top switch can be removed and contacts cleaned / polished up.

Also check the wiring for intermittant contacts or bad grounds.
With as little time as that motor runs, it should not overheat in normal use.

some folks have put in a relay though, I have tried to figure it out by searching on this site but have found nothing definitive as of yet. I'm sure it isn't "rocket science" but I'd like to put one in so I will continue looking into it.

I had a similar problem a couple of summers ago. I replaced the switch first and still had an issue. I took the motor/pump to a alternator/starter rebuilder and found that the armature was shorted. Paid $125 Cdn for a rebuild unit and still had an issue with sluggish movement. I topped up the fluid in the system and all has been good since.
