1972 442 W30 convertible

Hi all,
I am new to this site but a long time Olds fan. I grew up with these cars and my dad bought my 72 W30 convertible in October of 1979. It is a fairly well optioned car with cruise control, power trunk release, 8 track player, 4 way power drivers seat and power windows. I bought it off my parents in 1986. The reason they sold it was they bought another 72 442 W30 convertible 4 speed car (1 of 33 built) that my brother bought off them not long after. My other brother has a 2 owner 68 442 car. Kinda all in the family. I will post a few pics. Really have enjoyed this site.

Welcome to CO! Sounds like some great Oldsmobiles your family have. I love the look of the 72 442 better than any other year. I have seen more 72 W-30s with an 8 track player than any other year. I wonder if Oldsmobile pushed them harder in 72 maybe? Post some pictures if you can. We love pictures

Another 72 W30 with cruise control! I saw you post on a thread I started about my recently purchased W30. Sounds like you definitely have great collections... and convertibles at that! Post pictures when you get a chance.

Thank you. Just to be clear the black car is the auto W30 and the silver pewter car is the 4 speed car. The black car still wears the paint that my dad applied in 1980. Not bad for under a deck that he framed in with poly walls and a squirrel cage fan. The 4 speed car underwent a full rotisserie restoration.

Beautiful cars Al. Only seen the pewter car in person when we met at the Poppy HS show this year. Glad you decided to join.

Hi Randy. Thank you. Thinking about this you likely met my brother who owns the pewter convertible. It's a stunning car with amazing documentation. Crazy our dad owned both those cars in his garage at the same time. Anyway life is good and Oldsmobiling is awesome! Best, Al

Yes Al it was your brother who Randy and I met at the Poppy show. We met your dad too. We were with Tom Jensen who had his red 1970 W-31 there too.

Hi Dave. I was there too but drove my 69.5 Dodge Superbee 440 6 pack car. Brother Brad and I drove out together. Poppy is one of the best shows of the summer. Some great cars there.

Howdy from across the straits! Great to see such beautiful cars nearby...hopefully I'll make it over to a mainland show or two this summer and get a chance to see them.

Yes. I bought it off the second owner. His girlfriend in Pa lived next door to the original owner. He would go over a bug the older couple to sell it to him which they eventually did. It's a fully numbers matching Nugget Gold 4 speed car. I love that color. Was the brochure color for 1970.

The special order nugget gold is cool with the black. Have a '70 that was repainted but not the correct shade of NG. Will be correcting when we restore it.

Nice. Actually this car was restored by Thornton before the the 2nd owner transferred from Pa to Oregan. I've owned it for about 8 years. I found the original build sheet on top of the fuel tank under a rubber gasket. It has 3 more partial build sheets that came with the car.

Have not found build sheet (broadcast card) in mine, there were remnants of one attached to bottom of back seat. Have not pulled gas tank down to check, hoping its there to help document W30.
