1971 Cutlass Supreme Convertible 4 SPD
I'm new to the group and have a 1971 Cutlass Supreme Convertible with a factory 4 speed. I haven't seen any other 4 speeds around and was wondering if anyone else out there has one. I contacted GM and they didn't keep records of the ones that were ordered with a 4 speed. They said most 4 speeds went in the 4-4-2's. My dad ordered this car with the 4 speed. I think GM said they only made around 1300 4-4-2 convertibles that year and around 133 of them had 4 speeds. I know NADA takes a deduction on a newer car if it doesn't have a automatic transmission. Is this the case with older cars? Would my car be worth more or less because of the 4 speed? Thanks, Gene Jones,West Virginia.

I know of several '71 factory 4 speed Supreme convertibles, but there weren't many. According to GM Heritage center records, there were 394 Cutlass Supreme hardtops and convertibles (4200-series) built with M20 4 speeds through June 1971 (with about another month of production left that year). That was approximately 0.6% of production. Out of 10,255 Supreme convertibles, that's obviously not a lot. There may have been some M21-equipped cars as well.
It's definitely worth a premium with a factory 4 speed by the way...
