A little advice, secure the jack parts in the trunk or when you go around a corner fast you'll get reverse dings in your quarter panels.

Very beautiful!! Love that beautifully painted engine!!! Inside top of the hood is beautiful too... I have a friend with a 70 Cutlass S same color as yours! He gets a lot of awards with that car. Thanks for the pics!

The jack parts were placed there just for the picture,I do need to figure out where the jack base and hook are secured from the factory...anyone know?
In case it makes a difference for jack and parts stowage,this car was originally a hub cab car.

Well, more important (ya lurker) thanks for sharing. I didn't realize that front shoulder belts were offered in 71. Are those floor mats the ones from Fusicks? I've been toying with getting a set.

I thought that style had a threaded rod attached to the trunk floor. The rod would go through the center of the wheel then the base turned upside down over the rod and into wheel center.There would be a large wingnut that would thread it down. I know some of the older cars the jack and bumper hook would also hook into it , but that was a pain. Is the wheel held in place now?

As far as color,I'm not sure yet...I like the gold but wonder about some other colors also

Here is the jack set up now, the jack is sandwiched between the spare tire and the floorboard,held with this stud and nut thru the lug hole on the rim.The stud only sticks out the lug hole on the rim about an inch,so there is no way to slide the jack stand or hook onto the stud.

The base goes under the tire with the rod through it and the hook goes on the jack with the tire resting on it... there should be a sticker on your trunk lid to show you this

I recall there was a thread addressing this issue about a year ago, I just could not find it. Maybe you will have more success in your search than I did. Is it possible that your stud is not stock for your car? I think that cars that had regular steel wheels the stud went through the hole in the middle of the wheel and perhaps that allowed the jack base to recess closer to the trunk bottom, which would mean a shorter stud could be used. Just grasping at straws...

I think that yellowstatue has it right. There should be room for the base and bumper hook to fit on the inside of the rim and the tire resting on the jack. Looking at pics of a couple other cutlass' this is how they had it. that would keep anything from banging around in the trunk.
So when you paint it are you keeping it the same colour? I like the gold as well and it would look good freshened up . What other colours might you be considering.

My problem with the spare is that the car came equiped from the factory with steel wheels and hub caps,now has SS1's.
The sticker on the inside of the trunk lid shows exactly what was mentioned by Wolfman98 for a hub cab car.
I need to find out the storage system for SS1 type wheels.

I like the rubber trunk mat with "oldsmobile" on it.Can that be bought from the aftermarket?

I barley see your jack sandwiched between the spare and floor,is your hook attached to the jack? Where is your base?

I tried leaving my hook attached to the jack but I can't seem to get the positioning correct ,to where the hook fits inside the inner circle part of the rim.

Was just looking at the pic you posted showing the jack stowage. I just bought one of those Oldsmobile rubber floor mats from Fusicks but haven't put it in yet cause the trunk's full of parts. Did you have to cut the mat so the hook will go into the hold down? Yikes, this mat is $$$ and I don't really want to do that. I might be ok with a minor relief cut for the hook. Does anyone have an original with the rallye wheel tie down and trunk mat? How did the factory do this???

Yep the mat came from my ole buddies at Fusick. It's been awhile but I thought on the back had the cut out area shown. Check the back and let us know. I just used and Exacto knife and steaded myself with a few shots of Jack Black

There should be a little flat metal "U' shapped loop welded to the base of the trunk. The hook goes in there then the jack/base/wheeel-tire and the nut holds down the tire to keep everything thight.

FYI I have my trunk set up like a 70 not a 69 cause I like the look better.

The tire iron of course goes into a set of clips towards the back of the passanger side of the trunk. Fusick also sell them

Without the tire iron tucked into the rubber sleeve that surrounds the jack,maybe the hook and base will fit as described.I'll have to try and then...

I'll have to check Fusick for the tire iron clips and maybe even the nice rubber mat.

and my car comes up a little short with the woodgrain.Some cars I see have an additional strip of woodgrain running the length of the lower dash across where the wiper and heater controls,radio and cutlass emblem on the glovebox door are.Mine is black there.
I haven't figured out what determined how much woodgrian the dash recieved from the factory.

Fusick has the clips that hold the tire iron. It's not spose to be tucked into the rubber sleave that's on the jack. Mine won't even go on w/o some KY

They also sell the paper trunk decal that shows all of this, if your car is missing it.

When ya get time take everything out of your trunk and post a pic. We should be able to get this resolved quickly.

Been a hell of a day. Just about time to shower and hit the sack. Went out to the garage and checked on that OLDSMOBILE rubber trunk mat. On the back, there are 2 different cutouts. One is for B Bodies and one is for A bodies. If you don't mind waitin till tommorrow I'll post exactly what it says by the cutouts and put a pic for y'all to see. I think my plasma cutter would make a nice clean cut and leave perfect sealed edges... . Ok just kiddin. If you used Jack Black and an exacto.....hmmmm I don't mind some Black Ice and an OLFA. ( I can hardly wait for Sandy to ask what an OLFA is) Later my friend.

Soooorrrrryyyy Sandy!!! But it was just there, if yu know what I mean. Gosh, you're good with your Mr. Puter. Yes, OLFA is one of the companies that makes those nice cutting knives with the snap off sections on the blade.

I'm really glad this came up. I hadn't looked on the other side of the rubber mat. It's rolled up again and back in it's shipping box out in the garage. I'm not yet ready to cut it. I opened my 72's trunk and looked inside. Mind you it's full of spare parts, but I still said "Hey, nice trunk". Cause it is!!

Sandy, this is really worth it. Shipping to you in OH will be a lot less than it was to me in AB. I'd go for it girl! Tell Darryl its a Christmas gift, or a stay happy gift
