1968 olds cutlass
Hi my name is Rodney,
I am a new owner of a 1968 Oldsmobile holiday coupe. It has a protect-o-plate, but I can't figure what it means.
Here is the break down:940-NN 336878M194896
QU8183294 SC N
DS=OZ6565 00100
Thank you

I can get it started.
940 is the code for the interior color and front seat type. In your case, it means the interior was originally black and the front seats were strato bucket seats.
NN indicates the lower and upper body colors. In your case, N indicates the car was originally burgundy in color. If your car originally had a vinyl top, a top painted differently than the body color, or if it was a convertible, the upper body color or type (the second "N") would be a different letter or number.
The vehicle identification number (VIN) on your car should be 336878M194896. You should be able to verify the number on your POP against the number seen in the windshield pillar post on the driver side.
Here's the breakdown for the VIN:
3 = GM division = Oldsmobile
36 - model series = Cutlass V8
87 = body type = holiday coupe
8 = model year = 1968
M = assembly plant = Lansing, MI
194896 = plant sequential number
The rest of the codes on your POP will have to be deciphered by someone much more knowledgeable than me.
Your trim tag (riveted to the cowl on the driver side under the hood) will also reveal some more info on your car if you care to post a picture of it.
