1968 Olds Convertible
Hello, my name is denise. A couple weeks ago my father gave me a 1968 Olds Convertible, she is beautiful. He drove her from Ohio to Texas. I am in love with the car, I have to touch her at least once a day when i walk by her in my garage. I've taken her out a couple of times so far and its such a great car. My 5 yo grandson loves going for a ride with the top down. I am in the process of learning about my car and what makes her tick. I text my dad with any questions and he suggested i register on this site. So howdy to all!

Denise, Nice Blue, Blue, White car. Ask away when you have any Qs, do's or donts. You have many 68 owners/lovers here, me included. Is that factory colors? Looks like a D code car (Sapphire Blue Poly). Post a pic of that tag under the hood on the drivers side firewall. We'll decipher it for you. Hows her underside look. Crust free hopefully.
Lil bit of FYI for safety with you and your grand daughter. If the car hasn't been serviced in a while we'd suggest you change all fluids...Coolant, Engine oil, Trans oil and filter, Brake fluid flush, power steering flush, rear axle flush etc...Hoses, belts, thermostat etc...If the tires are 10 years or older change them. A blow out would be your worst night mare. Date codes are present on the side walls. A tire can visually inspect good yet be hiding dry rot. There are 3 rubber brake lines that should be changed when you flush the brake fluid. Those lines should be changed every 10ish years. So if they are original they are pushing 50!! Your on borrowed time. They are cheap insurance. There is 2 up front one in the rear. Brake fluid should be flushed every 3-5 years or more if its a daily driver. Its important to make sure drum brakes are properly adjusted for a good short even panic stop. Trans fluid n filter should be done at the same interval, or by miles...10K-20K is a good number. Fresh trans fluid is as critical as fresh engine oil. Always install high qual USA made parts in this car, never chineasium junk.
Fusick, Year One, OPGI, Legendary are reproduction parts specialist. Ecklers, Corvette Central, Mid-America are Corvette vendors but they offer many 68 only parts that are also found on the 68 vette. Chevelle, Pontiac, Buick, also share many similar parts. Theres a classified section here too. You can find most anything from a trusted Olds parts horder.

Hi: Beautiful car for sure, nice Dad bringing it to you. He gave you great advice, this is a great site and many people will help you. I suggest you join the Oldsmobile Club of America. I am a 35 year member, made lifelong friends and had all kinds of car help along the way. Here is the link:

You are lucky this year. Our national show is usually across the country and difficult to attend. This year it is in Albuquerque an easy ride for you. There is a show of course. You don't need to have your car judged but can compare it with others. There are local events to attend and you will have a chance to meet many folks. There are a couple of local chapters in Texas you can join if you are really into it. I have a great local chapter out here in Los Angeles. I wish you the best. Regards, Trent in Los Angeles

Congratulations for your heritage, Denise. Metallic blue body and interior is a beautiful combo. I hope we can see how it looks with white top up. I agree: 68 is one of the most beautiful years for cutlass... together with 70
