1966 olds Toronado

Hi everyone! I've just got the second car of my dreams, 1966 olds Toronado. Hopefully someone on this site can help me with a few of the problems. There's a long list, going to start with the more important ones first.
1. Would like a vacuum diagram for it.
2. Need a carburetor/air cleaner stud and wing nut.
Questions
1. Do the metal fuel line stop before the rear tire? Or has mine be cut? Mines has about three feet of hose going to the tank.
2. Passenger valve cover, where does the breather hose connect?
3. Power window motors, I need all four.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Not building a show car, but I want things to be in there correct places. The only other thing is on the dash I have rectangular holes? I'm sure it is for lights. The lenses are gone. Where can I find new ones?

I have a 67 parts car I bought when I bought my 66 and I am in OK. Where are you in KS?

You need a carburetor? Or just stud and wing nut.
I have some 66 Olds Quadrajets on hand and I could build one for you.

I'm not sure what length stud you need but I have plenty of used originals.

Mike, you can also get a carburetor stud at the parts store. You might have to trim it a bit.

If you plan to do the work yourself I strongly encourage you to get a 1966 Chassis Service Manual. That will help you with the vacuum lines plus much more. They're on ebay all the time, but here's a link to one so you can see what I'm describing. If orange442 doesn't have what you need I might. But check with him first. John

I'm in Gypsum Kansas. I like the respect that the other members have for you. If you have anything that will get my project going please let me know. As I stated the list is long, I only started with a few of the items and questions to get it going. I should of stated in the opening, I'm a master mechanic. Even being a master, Ive never put my hands on one of these cars. So I'm a little lost, it was the same when I got my first Corvair. In my day if you had questions, you went to the salvage yard. Those days are over a longtime ago. What I find enjoyable about doing one of these projects is the hunt for the items you need.

Can you tell me the carburetor number that should be on this 1966 olds Toronado?

My notes show the 400 automatic in 66 should have a 7026256 originally. I don't show that the Toronado have a different code in 66. It did in 67. 66 was first year for the Quadrajet on Olds. They were a single year design due to many updates done each year for the next few years.

Just got done talking to the Carb Shop owner in Salina Ks. He cleans my carburetors when I need to rebuild one. Was telling him that I'd found one of my dream cars. Also if he would have time in the next few days to clean one. He informed me that the 1966 Toronado had a different set up than most. The fuel pump actually had a needle and seat setup. He also said many of Toronado's caught on fire because of it. Knowing this, I want a carburetor that doesn't. If the 1967 or 1968 Toronado's used the normal setup, that's what I want. Plus it should have the correct vacuum hook ups needed for a Toronado. Do you have such a carburetor? The one on it is not a 1966. Please let me know what you have and price.

Yea. The needle/seat in 66 and some 67's were an issue. And the well plugs leaked like crazy on those too. GM had service carbs to replace to prevent the fire problems. Scary.

I do have some later Olds Quadrajets on my site.

Can I change the fuel pump to a 1967 and 1967 carburetor. Or is that not possible?

The 67 Olds Quadrajet has the better design screw in needle/seat.

There are some differences in Toronado carb and choke linkage compared to other QJets, mainly due to the recessed carb mounting. A 1967 carb should work fine or there were update kits available for the diaphram needle 66 carbs. Keep in mind 66-67 Olds QJet used a side fuel inlet and 68 later had front inlets.

You'll find that the Toro shares a lot with the Cutlass on some things. That can also mean higher price, notably on A/C parts.

Front power window motors are fairly simple replacements using the later Fisher body shortcut using a hole saw to access motor mounting bolts. Rears are a PITA since the whole window assembly has to come out.

66 and 67 had gauges for all but oil pressure which had idiot light. I think the instrument wiring plug is the same both years so if you don't have the gauge sets, 66 or 67 should work.
