I just purchased a '66 Cutlass Convertible and while I have a couple of 1965 F85's and '65 442, I am not up to speed on the '66 options and packages. I think this car is equipped rather strange, especially considering it doesn't have the 442 package. Can anyone shed any light on how common the options below would have been for this car?

330 / 320 HP - G Code High Compression Engine
4 Speed Transmission - Muncie Close Ratio
Posi-Traction Rearend
Buckets with Console and Vacuum Gauge
Dual Exhaust - no way to determine if born this way

Trim Tag Codes: I have learned that a couple of these indicate bucket seats, hole for the 4 spd, and console brackets but unsure of the others.

Does show the car as a 66-33867 LAN 3763

The car is Triple Black but aftermarket tires and wheels were added as was a modern stereo. The pictures show the dusty condition it was in when pulled out of the barn it had been sitting in.

Sorry, I know nothing about the numbers. I have seen a few of the non 442 66s with 4 speeds come up for sale, key word FEW.

 

Nice '66! I don't know what options (or combinations) of options you are referring to as "strange" and "rare". Everything you've indicated are available options.
You pretty much covered what is on your cowl tag already. Black bucket seat interior, console, 4-spd, deluxe seat belts.

While the options are definitely not "rare" I have not seen many Cutlass' with a 4 speed unless they had the 442 package. I guess I was more curious regarding the rarity of these options on a standard Cutlass convertible.

I picked up a 1964 Catalina a couple of years ago that was also equipped strange: Base Catalina with Bench Seat, 389, 4 spd, posi, and 8 lug wheels. PHS people indicate this was "rare" equipment for a Catalina but would be very common for a Bonneville.

My son has a 66 hardtop Cutlass.
It was born with buckets and a console,
auto and air with a console mounted tach.

 

We don't have production figures to tell us how many 442s vs non-442 A-bodies had 4-speeds. We do know there were 13,149 442s with 4-speeds, so that allows a lot of room for less "other than 442" 4-speeds without them being particularly rare. I'd venture to say the number is less, just a question of how much less. And I'd have to guess that the % of them that are left is even less, too. So one can only guess away at the numbers. Nice car, regardless.
Speaking of nice cars, I really like that Cat! I'll take that off your hands so you can concentrate on the Cutlass. (I have a soft spot for the full size performance cars.)
