1962 Dynamic 88 alternator conversion

Has anyone ever coverted their generator to alternator in a 62 Dynamic. If so how did you mount the alternator? I'm having trouble figuring a way out. The only was I see is to fabricate a custom tension backet. Is there any other way?

Find a late production 62 and get all the bracketry etc from it. I think the changeout started with airconditioned cars in February 62 and then went across the board around May 62.

Rocketraider is correct. Some 62's came from the factory with an alternator. No reason that setup should not work on your ride.

If you don't care about appearance, use the stock alternator brackets but get a 12SI internal regulated alternator from a late 1980s Olds 307. These have 78 amps stock, fit those stock alternator brackets, and are extremely easy to wire. I did this conversion on my 62 F-85 and it works great. Took me about an hour. The hardest part was finding the correct length belt.

I sprung for PowerGEN alternator for my '62 Dynamic. Looks almost identical to the original generator and it works great. Simple one wire hook up using the oiginal brackets (plus an extender piece for the upper arm). Puts out 75 amps and 60 at idle speed.

I bought a 'universal' alternator bracket from eBay and painted it black. I think it was $10 or so, works fine but doesn't look correct, of course.
