1962 Olds Dynamic 88 Generator to Alternator Conversion
I am converting my generator to alternator. I bought a 3 wire alternator with a built in regulator. Do I need to remove the old external regulator and what do I do with the wires if so. Do I just hook up the battery wire and ground wire to the alternator that are already existing if not? Do I need the side pig tail as well? And where do those wires go to?

Does your car have a charge indicator light ? (generator light) Reg wires should be removed. You can use some of these wires if you don't want to run all new ones. Does your reg have 2 wires on the ARM terminal or 1 wire? Sometimes the ARM terminal is labeled as GEN. It will be either gen or arm. The other 2 are BAT and FLD. If you want to reuse these wires let me know. For the time being if you need the car you can connect a Pos wire to the alt post and the #2 plug in wire to pos. and it will work. You will need the alt plug. The #1 wire on the plug will go to your indicator lite if you have one. If not you will need to run a resisted wire ti this wire.

Stellar is that for a 1 wire alternator? I have a 3 wire alternator with a built in regulator. I was told all I had to do was hook up the battery wire and ground wire to the alternator and that was it.

+ and - is all that is needed for a one wire alt. 3 wire alt will require at least + and - and pigtail wire #2 connected to +. This will make the 3 wire act like a 1 wire alt. For the 3 wire alt to function as intended all three wires will need to be connected. Pigtail wire #1 will need an inline resisted wire that is controlled on-off by the ign switch.
