1955 324 Help
Greetings! I am new to the forum & am looking for some help with a 324 Olds. Got a guy putting the engine back in vehicle & has this piece left over...any ideas? Kind of looks like a baffle for the road draft tube, but he says it won't fit. Any info will be much appreciated...Thanks

Welcome.
I have no idea what it is either, I'm not one of the more knowledgable guys.
I thought Cutlassgal would say it's a 710 cap, tube or breather part for sure.
I had a bunch of parts like that left over from my Vista.
The car runs and stops and nothing looks like it's missing so I don't worry about it.

No idea but you've given me a good idea for a new forum,.."Stump the Oldspert"
Each week one of us Nuff Nuffs could post a pic of something off our car and see which expert can figure what it is.
That widget looks like it may have been part of a tool he was using, or as Cutlassgal was thinking, a breather part. Whatever, might be a good idea to put it on a chain and wear it. On day the old girl will stop and you'll be wearing the part that gets her going again.

It is a thingamajig but I think it is for a 54 model. I agree with Dan in that it looks more like an interior or body part. I feel pretty sure it is not a part of the engine. I can't believe nobody asked for pictures of your car. Let me be the first to ask. We all love pictures. Welcome to the site. Great folks here.

alexe889, It does look like the housing that holds the ball on a road draft tube. kinda hard to tell with out something to compare it to size wise. It should have a stopper ball in that cage if it is in fact that part. I couldn't find a picture in my manual but someone has posted something in the past on this subject....Tedd

I may be wrong on the above post. After more thought I think it could be a part out of the filler tube for the transmission. Its been about 12 years since I was in that part of my car and I'm not as sharp as I once was on matters as this....Tedd

Well done Tony. You've won the inaugural "Stump the Oldspert" competition. Not that I've got a 324 but I've been watching to see who could identify the mystery part. It had me completely stuffed.

I am honored for the win!!!
I know a little about early Oldsmobiles
Being we are the best source for engine and trans parts as well as complete turn key drivetrains......Stock or Speed

Once apon a time, a friend switched the intake on his '65 442, and blew the motor on the expressway when all the oil blew out of the breather!
Now I know he probably forgot to re-install that part!
Good to learn something everyday!!
