Thanks.
How is it updated? I know my 2007 Solus is registered in my companies name and as it sits, only I can update it.

Reason I ask is this. A few weeks ago a guy came in my shop with a fairly new Modis for $2k. Snap On just happened to be in the complex so I had him take a look at it. First, the owner owed well over $5k on it and until the balance was paid no updated could be done. Second, it had to registered with the Snap On corporation before it could be updated from its current 2007 program.

Thanks for that info, truly valuable advice. Especially when dealing with these expensive scanners and such, without being updated they're not worth much. And with all of the thieves around, who knows if it's stolen or not. For that kind of money, you had better get a paid receipt and all of the documentation that goes with it.

Hmmm I do not know, i haven't had to do any software updates yet since it is pretty new. I thought the process was to purchase the software which is I believe is about $1,000 from your local dealer or online and they send you the disc to install to the laptop but you may be correct. So what your saying is that the only way to sell a snap-on scantool is to sell back to snap-on since it is registered in the orginal owners name?

To break it down in its simplest form, a Solus, Verdict, Modis, 2650XT are absolutely as worthless as Snap On themselves if the unit is either stolen or has funds owed on it. It is a lock they have on their own software. So, give me the serial number and we can find out the deal on it.

You are kinda outta luck. Sounds like whoever you got that from stole it and scratched the number off on purpose. those numbers dont come off easy.

thats what I was eluding to. This is a stolen tool. I would never buy anything without proper documentation.

All joking aside, I find it concerning that this was initially offered for sale with no mention of the known fact that the serial number had been obliterated.

hahahaha Its just a joke Mdchanic, the tool got sold already a week ago with all the ""proper documentation"" I forgot to take the ad down here but when I noticed it and no one was actually interested in it and rather just shoot the breeze I kinda just went along with it. But the good news is! I came into some property and have a bridge for sale and will be posting the sale of it soon so keep a eye out
