I noticed that Dave hadn't posted for a while. I saw a post last night on Facebook that he had passed away. Many knew him as davebw31 here on Classicolds. He worked at Olds in the late 60's and early 70's. We'll all miss his stories of "back in the day"
I was only able to meet him one time and I knew right off that he was a great person to know. The Olds community sure lost one of the great ones. We will miss you Dave
Damn shame to lose such a great resource for info from back in the day "as it happened". Always enjoyed Dave's posts and will miss him greatly. Happy travels and RIP, Dave.
I reached out to Dave on this forum when I first started to restore my 442. He told me to call him which I did. About 2-hours later we hung up the phone. In that 2 hours he told me more about Oldsmobiles than I had learned my entire life. It was a lot to soak up and I have forgotten half of what he told me, but I do remember something he said and did that was pretty dam cool.
It was about 2 weeks or so before Homecoming and he asked if I was going to attend. I didn't even know what Homecoming was so I told him I wasn't.. Besides, my wedding anniversary was the same weekend and I knew my wife wouldn't want to go to a car show/swap meet. He said, " you have kids?" I said "yep, a daughter and a son." He said" your son like cars?". I said "yep". He said" Father's Day is that weekend too. Tell your wife you want to spend the day with your son". I got a kick out of that and liked his creative thinking. He even offered to pick us up in Cincy on his way up from Fla. and we could stay in his RV with him.
I'm not sure everyone has had the same experience that I had with Dave but he won me over right from the get go.
He will be sorely missed and I now wish I would have taken him up on his offer.
Rest in Peace Dave
I sure am going to miss that guy. He was a great source of knowledge for many in the hobby.
His car will be donated to the REO Museum in Lansing like he always said it would be. RIP my friend.
What a tremendous loss!!! I have had several conversations here and at a couple of dinner meetings that I arranged for this forum. I recall he stood up and we must have listened to him talk about Oldsmobile for close to 25 mins.
RIP my friend! And keep restoring those Oldsmobiles up there in heaven.
Godspeed as well Dave. What an individual (and character!)! I had a few opportunities to meet with Dave and listen to his great stories and glean some of the encyclopedic knowledge lodged inside his Rocketbrain. He sure made massive efforts to get out and meet folks on his extended trips with his RV/trailer and of course his signature W31. I was the lucky recipient during one of his tours and will never forget it.
I never got to meet him but truly enjoyed and appreciated his stories from "back in the day" He was a real resource to all of us who love Oldsmobiles. It is a tremendous loss.
A sad day for his family and fellow Oldsmobile enthusiasts. It was always amazing to hear from someone who was there in Lansing when the muscle car craze was in full force at Oldsmobile. RIP Dave
