1971 442
1971 442
Finally very close to being done with first major rebuild. This is a 1971 Lansing built 442 that was a VERY solid car to begin with, but alas did not have its born with BB when I purchased it. It DID have a very strong 1970 455 with large valve E heads from a Tornado which put out tons of torque. The motor has been magna fluxed, .030 over clean up and had a complete rebuild. The interior is completely original save for new carpet that was faded and coming apart. It's been an educational three years to say the least and I'm very glad I saw it through to completion. The car drives down the road like a dream and have had many complements so far.
Now for the nay sayers and haters let me say this up front. It is a clone / tribute whatever you want to call it. It's the car I always wanted growing up in the early 70's so I made it to suit me. I have not nor will I represent it as anything else. I have the original build card for the car which clearly shows it as a 442 only. I am displaying it in the picture album of the rebuild that I keep in the car . Its my driver to enjoy.
I could not have done this project without untold help from this website. I want to say a big thank you to all those that were so helpful in readily providing information. Hope to see some of you on the road soon. Thanks again

Is the drivers seat recovered with a PUI product? I bought some door panels from them years ago and the grain didn't match what my 72 has so they never got used. IDK why they said it was 72 correct when it obviously isn't. I'm just curious about the drivers seat cover - everything else looks the way it should. At least the color is right and it also has the right deep pleats. I know a man on a fast horse wouldn't know to look for this.

That entire interior is original except for the carpet. The lighting in the picture may be making it look different. The water papers on the inside of the door panels were even 100%. Package tray is original (re dyed). No cracks anywhere on dash pad. Interior still has that OLD car smell

From the documents and service slips I received with the car it is from South Bend Indiana, was owned by a female (little old lady ?) and obviously spent winters in a garage. 88,xxx showing on working odometer so I think that # is correct

Beautiful car!! Love the color combo! That green interior just screams '70s!! When you said you built it for yourself,to be just like the car you'd wanted growing up,I couldn't have said it any better! That's the same reasoning behind what I did to my '68. I wanted a factory 4spd-a/c car & after searching for a few years found a nice #s matching one. I added all the repop W30 OAI parts like you did, those red fender wells are just too cool!! I could give a crap if you couldn't get a W30 with air in '68!! I saved all the original parts for the next owner to put back on if they choose! Now all you have to do to yours is a dual-gate conversion & add the rally-pac gauges!!! Great looking car!!!
