though hope is that this will be a quick build that will be on the road soon, getting kicked out of dads garage. I have a t56 that i plan on putting in, and am looking for a 350. so far thats all i have planned other than some body work here and there and the interior.

im looking for a 350, i need frame side mounts as well. clutch/brake peddle, maybe z bar and associated linkage. drivers door latch. radiator and top radiator mount. wouldnt mind front and rear bumpers and may need some trim pieces. may need more but to soon to tell. if you have these parts or know someone with them let me know or direct them my way. lemoldsnut im looking at you

 

looks like burgundy mist. My 66 was originally that color. never made it to paint. before she had to go. I miss that girl... good luck with yours .

 

with the car originally being a 6 cylinder, if i get v8 frame side mounts will they bolt on with the same holes or will i have to drill different holes?

I missed buying that car by a few hours.... I just sold my 66 and was hoping to score that one as a replacement. Oh well.

I have a good running and driving 66 330 that came from my old 66. high compression, 310hp from a manual trans car (have flywheel and pressure plate). I'd sell it for $800

I have a video of it running taken before I pulled it. Was a good running engine with about 20k since its last rebuild- no smoke, ran great- I just wanted more power.

The frame has a bunch of different holes pre-drilled. All you'll have to do is bolt them in.

I didn't want to sell mine- finances forced my hand. But the thought of picking up a near twin, missing pieces that i already have, seemed like a cool consolation prize.

oh well. Time for me to spread the '66 wealth around i guess. I'm sure you'll enjoy the heck out of it- you definitely bought well.

Your car started life Exactly as mine, 6 cylinder standard shift and all, I have had it since 1974, it was my first car. I am doing a major body off resto on mine, I have lost track of the man hours and money I have spent so far, probably better that way. crossmember appears to only have 3 holes on each side for motor mounts, passanger side has 2 slotted holes. I started going thrrough the electrical and wiring to see what works and what doesnt, and to get it ready fora sbo since the underhood wiring is for a chevy 6. very simple in there but do have a few questions. first the wiper system, it has a switch for two speed and washer, its my understanding that standard is single speed without washer. is there anyway to figure out how it came? to support the option it does have what appears to be a factory fluid bottle and two speed switch with center button for washer. against it, no pump on wiper motor, no squirters, universal pump mounted on fender. second is about wires that arent hooked up to anything, shown in pics, what are they for?

Looks like you really need a copy of the wiring diagram for your car. You can either go HERE and join the site, or find one on eBay.

 

Might be a good time to test the heater core while the motors out. Be sure its good.

 

Who makes good replacement panels for a 66? i need a complete trunk pan and the lower channel for the rear window needs help. i dont want to put in a whole filler panel, from glass to trunk, as the rust isnt to bad but id rather not make my own pieces if i can just buy the lower channel.

I bought my 1 piece trunk floor and window channel for my 66 from TPP, order the whole rear window panel and just use what you need, that is what I did, be prepared for the sides of the pillars from the roof line to trunk area to need some repair as well, you may get lucky though.

"The Parts Place". Yes, they sell mostly pretty good stuff. 'Tamraz' on eBay also sells good stuff, and much of it is free shipping. Suggest you look at a 1 piece trunk pan rather than the pieces, much easier to have it end up fitting correctly and come out nice.

I pulled the floor mat out today to find some fiberglass patches all over the floor. they were put on poorly and i was able too pull them up.

looks like im patching the floors now too, worse than the pictures make it look, anyone have a mig i can borrow?

 

I feel your pain. The previous owner of my 66 project decided to use sheet metal over black tar to patch the floors. What a freakin PITA to work on. A word of advice if I may..... if you end up having to replace the entire floor (which you well may) opt for a 1 piece floor with braces installed. I know it is a lot more money, but you will be glad you did. I didn't, and have spent countless hours fitting up, welding, grinding, filling, sanding, (rinse and repeat ad infinitum), and they will never look like the factory installed them.

 

as far as floors are concerned i really dont care what they look like as long as its safe and solid. the way i see it is carpet is going to cover it. and im not into the factory restration car show thing. I sure dont want to do all that welding though...

 

the car didnt come with the the gas pedal piece that bolts to the firewall. I wanted to use a cable setup instead of the solid linkage so i went to the junkyard and bought a cable setup of a 78 delta because ot bolted flat to the floor, figured it be an easy conversion. I didnt like the pedal so i looked around and came across a late 70's hatch nova with a plain pedal so i grabbed that with the intention of just using the pedal. well when i got home it turns out the nova assembly was nearly a bolt on. the only thing i had to do was shorten the arm that the cable attaches to, other that that a perfect fit i think. sorry for the long read but i thought it was a cool coincidence.

Congratulations on your score. Looks good so far. Personally I would weld the patch panels back in the floor pan. Pretty simple just cut out the rusted spots and cut small panels to weld back in. Just cut the panel larger than the hole and then drill small holes outside the area you cut out and weld it up. Just like spot welding any other panel on. It won't look factory but who's gonna climb under the car and look for it. Plus it will be there and you don't have to worry about it.


On a lighter note. Are you going to use the factory steering wheel or put an aftermarket wheel on it? If you go with the aftermarket, I would be very interested in buying yours.

I don't know if OPG has the whole assembly but I do know they carry parts and pieces and the stuff Ive bought from them so far is pretty good. That's original parts group inc. Also there's supercars unlimited.

 

ive found one or two at ok prices, idk what to get i guess. its my understanding that olds and chevy pedals dont interchange so i dont want one that says A body pedals or list that it fits chevelles, correct?

 

I believe the 66 is a different assy from other years. I had gotten a 66 gto when I had my 66 cutlass and it had the right holes and connections. I never installed it fully before I sold the car. I am not sure if others will work with out problems.

 

i met with lemoldsnut and bought some missiong pieces as well as an engine this weekend. its moving along nicely, only snag is finding a throwout bearing to work with my t56

 

It was good to meet you too. The frame stands you got from me will bolt right in and the motor mounts on the engine will bolt right to them. There is a short wire you show in one hand that is for the automatic kick down some used. It is in all the engine harnesses it should be hot when key is on. Everything else you go from me will be direct bolt in. The motor is a very nice running engine. As you saw in the video. As for the patch panels you need My advise is stay away from TPP. They have very poor customer service if there is an issue. I have used OPGI, Fusick, and Tamaraz with good results. I might have some panels too when you get to that point. I might even have some interior. I have not brought home the second 66 yet. Brought home the one the day after we meet. I can help you with issues you run into as far as fitment and figuring out stuff too.

Thanks, it was cool meeting you as well. First classicolds member I've met. I got the engine stands bolted in and the engine cleaned and painted, working on fitting my t56. After I got home I realized that the window cranks I had on my front windows were smaller diameter plastic ones vs the larger almost rubbery more common style I got from you, I'm not huge on originality so I'm not concerned just an observation.

 

I noticed trying to fit the v8 radiator that my lower radiator cup/mount deals aren't removable to move them forwar to the v8 radiator location. Be I believe the other wires in the picture went to the voltage regulator

 

Yes they go to the alternator. As for the radiator mounts drill out the spot welds and then move them out.

 

still need help getting the clutch/brake pedal assembly. dont care if its new or used, if new i need help on making sure i get the right thing.

i was under the impression that chevelle pedals wont work in an olds, is that not true? as long as they'll hang in my car im sure i can make them work.

 

I can't say for certain as i haven't tried- but i can't imagine them being 100% different... you may have to do some modification, but I'd think that 2nd set would at least give you a starting place.
