1966 Cutlass Holiday-A Resurrection-The Quest Bengins

Howdy fellas,

10 years my Holiday has been barned with 53,000 original miles. Unfortunately he was rode hard and put away wet and wrecked (story to be adding soon). I am the second owner.

1997 when Dad and I dragged it out of a pasture in Lillian, Texas where it had sat, covered and wrecked 8 years.

Today after parked in the barn 10 years, knowing that when I had it trailered out to the ranch from my home that the right front wheel was frozen tight. So, after asking for some experience, strength and hope from ya'll I dove into it this morning. Here is some pics.

Now I can get him up to the house which has a killer oversized garage and guy friendly work set up (my grand daddy built this house in 1970) and get started after a LONG haitus.

Don't mean to highjack Rob,
but this may be of interest to you as well.

Henry, what all does it intail doing a disc
brake conversion on the 66-67's?
If you wouldn't mind elaborating.
It would be appricated.

Disc's are most definatley coming...

Adam, it takes spindles, calipers, rotors and bearings, lines and a proportioning valve more or less. I have seen kits for about $500

I plan to rebuild the front suspention while I have the front end all apart....makes no sense not to get it all done.

disc conversion

Guys:
The disc brake conversion is one of the easiest things I did to my 66 during the resto work, I bought the complete kit from OPGI, the only modification I had to do was drilling out the 2 holes for the spindle mount to 1/2" on each side. It really made a big difference in the stopping safety of the car. Even w/ new brakes on the car, if you don't get it stopped in the first few feet, you are just along for the ride. Good luck w/ the project, the 66 version makes a great looking cruiser when finished.

Ha thanks fellas...in all honestly I told my daddy when we looked at it...."hell dad, it aint that bad" LOL....and getting it to the 75% stage it is at now, wasn't really that hard. I had bashed a few cars that bad and fixed em.

The kids that pushed and steered. I pulled this up 300 yrds from my barn with a tow strap, 4 kids and a Husqvarna vtwin Kohler 48" HD mondo lawn tractor LOL. It worked pretty damn good too.

This grill I scavenged from a 1966 Vista Cruiser in 1997
Parts...the clean headlight bucket and NON T3 bucket are parts I bought in 1997. They has been repainted for sure. The T3's and the rougher bezel are original.

Not yet.....the plan is once I have the clip off....to check and repair the wiring, the grounds etc...ignition. Get a battery, check the plugs, replace a few plug wires, change the oil and start it off of a gas can and if it fires (which it will) work on the fuel tank and lines,,,replace the brakes..through the clip back on and take it for a spin.

Haha Adam, the greatness IS...I didn't hurt myself. Thanks

I tell ya what....not much coolant came out of the radiator OR from the bottom hose (motor). It will suck if I got a pushed out freeze plug or a crack in the block.

Thanks...Oh I tell you what fellas, wow I really half assed this cars front end back together. Missing bolts, **** bent WOW. I guess it looked ok from 10 feet LOL.

Well an update for those who 2 sh*ts LOL,

Almost ready to test fire after 9 years barned. I lost the damn keys so thank to Joe P. for hookin me up. In the interim I did some of this.

Marvel Mystery Oiled each cylinder and hand cranked the motor over a few times (hard too, lots of compression left) to lube each.
Once I get to stay running I''ll treat the intake with some of this ****

I bought some high dollar racing oil with Zinc but I aint sold on that just yet. Stand by for what I decided.

Brake lines and distribution block

Hey Rob,

Your thread has been quiet the past few days. How is the car coming along? Are you able to reuse the brake line and distribution block I sent down? Looking through my spare parts, I found another right side brake line. Let me know if you need another one.

I am waiting on the keys the Joe Padavano is making for me. Then i'll start it and comense moving seriously forward. In The last week, I have been restoring small engine bay parts, detailing and painting assorted small stuff. I dont wanna dive off into other big jobs if the time and money is gonna end up being a motor. Thats my thinking anyway.
I have not installee the lines/block yet but will and TY again Larry.
