1958 olds super 88

Good day boys , new to this forum , mostly new to Oldsmobiles all together ..
I came across a 58 super 88 . The guy that started building it spent 18 years to get the car to what it is now .. He gave up on it and I have inherited this project. I am having troubles trying to figure out linkages , parts , and info , I am hoping maybe a few of you may have some insight on these old boats

So I am trying to piece this thing together, looks like the last owner dropped in a 394 , the problem I am having is the water neck on the intake manifold is pointing towards the drivers side . The water neck on the rad is on the passenger side, it seams to be to sharp of a bend to make a rad hose work(which I don't have ) I am wondering if anyone knows where I can find a water neck for this thing.

The other problem I have is I haven't seen any other water necks that will fit this engine. The bolt holes measure about 3.7" from center to center and this one does not have the extra outlet for the water pump ....

A swivel water neck or one that points to the front of the engine should work for me ...

Well Fusick sells the water outlet new for up to '58, but trying to adapt it to what you need might be a pain

Welcome form the left coast

You can always have a radiator shop move the water neck to the other side of the radiator should not cost a lot. I have done this on a number of car builds

X2, also it's not a big deal to cut the water outlet and reposition it where it will work and have it rewelded. It looks to be aluminum shouldn't be much of a job for any weld shop....Tedd

I don't think cutting and welding the existing water neck will work very well, it's thin cast aluminum and not very much room to play with .

I will prolbably have the rad neck changed , was hoping to get away without having to play with a 58 year old rad..

Both Tedd and I are talking about there water neck at the radiator not the one on the engine

I am trying to mount the fuel tank in the car, I found 2 straps that seam to clip in under the trunk , they seam to bolt on at the rear , I there spouse to be studs on the body of the car that these straps slide over or is there spouse to be a nut welded in there? All I see is a blank hole with no way to get a nut in or be able to hold it??

Sorry boys for all the "newbie" tech questions .i wasn't even a twinkle in dads eye when this car was last on the road . And I'm more into drag racing , having a hard time to keep this car restored and not rodded...

I have a 55. If the tank mount is similar, and I think it is, there is a J-bolt that goes to the hole in the cross frame you noted. The J-bolt will reach down to the end of the strap. Use a nut with washer through the strap, and that holds the strap.

Fusick has the J-bolts, but at the moment they say they won't be in for about 2 weeks. I broke my 2 trying to remove the tank for the fuel sender. Napa Auto parts also has some J-bolts that are very close and should work.

Awesome thanks.. Think I may have seen a couple j bolts in the boxes of nuts and bolts that came with the car ..

For linkages and other small things, '57's are very similar. Maybe a thermostat housing for a 2 bbl would work for you.

No luck finding oldsmobile fuel tank bolts from fusick or eBay, I think I will just build a couple of t-bolts.

I also found the power steering pump in crate , fitted it up and noticed the power steering pulley is bent , I have had no luck finding one aftermarket .. It's a single v groove pulley with a keyway and nut..

Fusick catalog #560, page 40, at the top, under 1958 Olds fuel tank. "Fuel Tank Strap Mounting Bolts" PN: GTB578, $14.50/ pair.

Call Steve at Fusick about the pump pulley. Even though it's not listed, I bet they may have something you can use.
