Headers
I have a 67 442 with a 455 4 spd. I am building and have run into a fitment issue with by Hedman hedders. They hit the drivers side bottom control arm mount, steering shaft, and passenger side upper control arm. I have done a huge amount of reserach and have so many differnt opinions. The only common concense is the MJproformance headers fit the best but 1K is out of the budget. After all of the years that the 442 with a BB has been around you would think that one of these rocket scientists could design a header that you didn't have to bash the tubes in for clearence. This is so frustrating to the point of considering installing Thorton manifolds. I have researched Hookers, Kooks, Dougs, Flowtech, etc. and they all seem to have the same issues. Does anyone out there in Olds land have a good suggestion.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Sorry, it's either ARH/M&J or use one of the others and deal with whatever fit issues crop up.

Have Hookers on my 67 442 conv 4spd. With new engine mounts the drivers side fit with no mods required. On the passenger side the rear most tube would hit the top edge of the upper control arm. Trimming this edge would be the fix if not the tube got dented as the arm moved. Milling the center exhaust divider down flush on the heads makes the headers fit perfectly. I was told by the previous owner he tried Hedman and they would not fit thats why I went with Hookers.

Sometimes heddmans require some or extreme finesse to install. New motor mounts and/or spacers may help. You may need to grind some on the frame and dimple the headers themselves.
I too have also heard that the Hookers tend to fit better.

Good question! The headers are still on the car and were purchsed around 1977 so whatever ones were available back then are what they are.... If I remember correctly back then there was only 1 choice for the 67 442 from Hooker. The old 2 inch tube headers for the 67 were discontinued and for 68 up cars there was a Hooker available with 2 inch tubes but were not listed for the 67 and the application said one tube on one side went over frame or something to that effect. So these would prob not be supercomps. They had the 1 3/4 tubes and were the standard fit all Hookers from 65 thru 76 BB.
