Installed tall valve covers because I put some new roller rockers on but of course the rear bracket won’t fit over top. Has anyone come up with a way to brace the rear of the stock compressor? I’m guessing that leaving off a rear brace is bad for it?
I know there is a new type sadden compressor and brace like the one on my 442 that came with my Vintage Air but I would rather just brace what I have for now. Thoughts?
I have Harland Sharp rockers, and only used thicker gaskets with the stock covers.
I did something similar. With Harland Sharps I used the shortest adjusting nut I could find and cut the baffles from the inside of the valve cover. The covers fit with standard gaskets.
I used stock Olds breathers on both valve covers and sourced the PCV from the valley area that had a turkey tray to block most of the oil mist.
I did this with the alternator brace. Though not all that necessary on this engine except to get valve cover on & off with studs, spacer & 2 gaskets. I did basically the same on another engine with tall covers to get basic clearance for the increased height, aggravated by on & off w/ studs.
I found that the alternator mount needs this brace for stability/rigidity so I cut away the obstructing portion.
