My 66 Delta 88

Thanks! I also debated about the wheel opening moldings as well as the rocker panel moldings before ultimately deciding to keep it clean and simple. I have a set of rocker panel moldings sitting in the garage and occasionally I find myself kicking around the idea of putting them on. I think it will stay the way it is for now. I need to be worrying about getting a good rear bumper instead. I painted the rear one because it was too far gone for chrome. Another core plus chrome is just not in the budget for now.

Toodluck, I see you are a minitruck guy, you going with air ride on the Delta?
Take a look at this 65 Jetstar with an Air Ride Technologies setup on it.

I am about to start on a 66 Starfire and this gives me a lot of inspiration!!! Great car man. I am more of a mini-trucker as well, mine will probably end up with hydraulics though. It will have cut down stock springs, short cylinders and shocks all the way around. No more than 3 batteries, this setup will be as fast as airbags, but wont hop or 3 wheel. I am helping bag a 62 caddy sedan deville right now and it needs so much pressure to lift, it is going to ride pretty rough. We still need to add shocks, but I bet the hydraulics are going to ride much better. Here is a pic of the caddy on the lift.

Engine is finished, should have it back in by the end of next week, I'm out of town a lot. I've finished out the trunk, gotten most of the upholstery work done and built a custom console to house the added gauges and stereo so I don't have to mess with any of the original stuff. Once the a/c is plumbed and blowing cold, I should be rolling in high style! Hopefully 100% complete by the end of this ridiculously hot summer.

I'm not sure, but I think he was talking about the fine machine featured in THIS thread.

No one makes headers for this car. My understanding is that the only way to do it is to move the steering gear out of the way, which means notching the frame. I just got the manifold from thornton reproductions to put dual exhaust on it.
The door belt weatherstrips I had a hard time finding too. You can buy them in sections and bend your own, it's not that difficult on these cars. just two bends on the quarter glass. The ones on the front doors are straight, you can just cut them to length.
I found a guy to make mine for me, I'll see if I can dig up his contact info. He was very knowledgeable and very helpful.

I've got her back on the road now. I'll have some pics coming this weekend.
Here's some of what I did on the car while the engine was being re-rebuilt.

Thanks. That console was my first attempt at fabricating with fiberglass. I just wanted to have all my modern conveniences without messing up any of the original stuff. Figured that was a nice, reversible way to get it all in there.

I took her to her first show today and came home with my first trophy.

Beautiful car! Can you tell us more info about the 1985 Cutlass Coils? I'm finding 10 different types of Cutlass models for 1985. Not sure if they are all the same... And... Did you just simply replace the coils and nothing else? Any tips or tricks? I need to find the weight difference between your 2 door and my 4 door to see if I'll get the same results. Any advice and/or suggestions would be great!
Thanx, Jason

Thanks! I drive mine regularly, but not daily. If I were, the ride as it is would probably get old real quick. I mostly show it, and I like the low look, but I scrape the exhaust on speed bumps and road construction a little too often. It does ride and handle good for being so low. Definitely better than cutting them up, plus I can go back to stock at any time. I've got some things to button up with the AC system and a little upholstery work still to do. After that, it's either going to get air ride or coil overs.
Unfortunately, I can't tell you exactly what I used because I don't know for sure. I went to my buddy's mechanic shop and we just started pulling out springs and sticking them in there until we found something that made it sit just the way I wanted it. He said they were from an 85 Cutlass.
If you could get your hands on some springs from a cutlass that was the same year as yours, It might give you good results. But I can't really say, most of this stuff for me is just trial and error because there aren't too many of these cars set up the way I wanted mine. The ones that are have $$3,000 -$4,000 in air ride technologies gear.

Did yo change the struts too? Don't know how true it is but..... I just read on another thread that coil overs wont work. Something about the placement not intended to hold the weight of the car?.....
#72
I'm assuming you meant shocks? No struts on these cars. I just put a fresh pair of OE replacements and an alignment, that's it. Really simple.
I don't know why coilovers wouldn't work? The car has shocks mounted inside the coil springs originally. With the exception of some bracketry

I just realized today that I don't have any decent pictures of it. I'll get some this weekend. I haven't done the upholstery on the seats yet. Should have that done in a couple weeks and then my brother(a pro photographer) is going to get some good ones for me.

The first 15 pictures shows how she turned out.

I'm thinking the original poster won't be reading this. This thread is so old.
But I had to say, sweet ride.
That car turned out really nice. I like the console, it's modern but totally blends in with the interior. I may be stealing the paint scheme one day.

Thanks! I sold the car shortly after that show and I don't have an Oldsmobile, but I still get email alerts if someone posts on one of my threads. I'm building a 56 F100 now, so I don't cruise the Olds threads anymore.

I’m back in the olds game again. Just rolled across this thread and can’t believe it’s been 11-12 years...
this is what I’m working on now. Other than the wheels and tinted windows, this is exactly how I bought it. It’s an original 330/4 speed, but the engine is a little wimpy. Going to talk to @cutlassefi about building me a 455.
