Help me understand???

I'm in the process of replacing the mufflers and tailpipes on my '72 U code Supreme. In an effort to use all new hardware, I bought a set of repop tailpipe hangers from Inline Tube. I made sure to specify I needed ones for the non-trumpet exhaust, but I can't figure out how to install them. I checked the CSM, but the diagrams are pretty vague.

Can someone help me out?

Thanks,
Dave

IM Terry, vette442 here. He should know this.
Inline has been somewhat troublesome lately.
Give the Fusick or Year One guys a call. They will know this too.

I tried installing them that way, but it tucked the tailpipe up under the rear bumper..is that right?

Properly installed you shouldn't see a lot of tailpipe

Correct, the turn-down on the tail pipe should be just visible beneath the bumper. The exhaust gases need to be able to exit from under the bumper; otherwise the lower tail light lenses will eventually warp.

Here's a random pic from an old post. The bumper got bent so take that into account:

💡💡💡..and the light bulb came on! After looking at Don's pic, I realized what I was doing wrong. I was attaching the hanger to the lower frame rail instead of the upper...DOH! Now it makes sense!
