Restoring a 70 442 and looking at horns they need help. Have them restored for 200ish or buy new set from Inline for ike 160iish? They say Delco Remi original. was wondering if anyone had any experience with horn rebuild or replace?

I bought a pair from one of the big box suppliers and they were garbage, mounting brackets were wrong. Found a rebuilder online with excellent results. I think his first name was Gary but that’s all my memory serves me.

I can attest to that statement, too. Here are pics of the horns he restored for me. You may want to ask him if he plans to offer any discounts in the near future. Last Nov/Dec he ran some specials.

Do they work?
Depending on what you want in the end, a basic clean and repaint can be pretty easy. I drilled out the rivets so I could disassemble them, cleaned up in the blast cabinet, painted, reassembled and tuned. They are tuned by turning the screw on the back so they pull a certain amount of current.
Note that one of the Olds horns isn't reproduced. I found the info somewhere here on CO. GM had 4 or 5 different horn notes and used different combinations for each make. One of the Olds notes isn't reproduced, so the horns you can buy are the Chevy combination.

Have them restored. Check my resto thread for the place I used. Turn around was a few weeks, and I believe it was around $200. Horns are date coded so try and use them if possible!
