Engine knock in 350???

Hello all. Going to check out a 71 Cutlass S hardtop that the owner claims has a knock in the engine. Does anyone have any advice on how to determine if it's in the top end or lower? Don't really want a project where the whole engine needs to be rebuilt. Any thoughts on what to look (and listen) for would be most helpful! .
Thanks and have a good weekend!

Knocking could be many things .
If you can, post a video of it running here. Their are usually guys here from all time zones , all over the world here. You will get a better answer to your question that way.
If its a rod you'll know it .

You can pull plug wires one at a time while running and see if it goes away identifying a rod bearing knock.

I had a knock in my 71 Cutlass and it turned out to be the timing chain slapping because of excessive play from the nylon teeth had worn off the gear. I replaced the gears and chain and solved the problem. I also dropped the oil pan to clean all the plastic fragments from the gear.
