New to the forum but not Oldsmobiles. I have a lead to purchase what looks like all purposes to be a legit 1970 W30 car. The car is missing the original OW Trans and the F heads and original intake. Because of that I would suspect the claims it's a real W30 except they have a copy of the original window sticker which looks legit to me and they know the history of the car and have owned it since the 80's. The car was stolen in its early days and the engine was pulled which is probably when the heads disappeared. Car has been sitting for 20 years and needs a total restoration. It still has the w27 rear on the car. Here is a picture I took of the window sticker. What do the experts on this board think?
Are you SURE it has the aluminum center section & not just the cover? I know it says W27 on the sticker but if it is still there that really raises the value of the car. Have you had a chance to check for a broadcast card that should say W30 on it? Sometimes you can find them in the back of the bucket seats, under the carpet, under the bottom of the rear seat, under the package tray, etc...? Also, any other paper work?
100% sure it has the aluminum center section. I crawled under and inspected it myself. That is the main reason I think it is legit. And yes I know that adds significant value. No other paperwork that they mentioned. Interior is out of the car and I have not dug around in the usual places.

It seems to me if they have a "copy" of the window sticker, they should have the actual window sticker. I know in 1969 the sticker was printed on BOTH sides, there was info on the back. No repros have that. I suspect 70 was the same. That's how I would figure if the sticker was real on a 69. It's really easy to fake a sticker.

The W-27 has a date code on it and that should be close to the date on the cowl tag. And also, with this being an A/C car it has to have the 3.23 gears in that W-27. The W-27 was only available in a 442 with the W-30 option. If the date and gears line up well to the body tag date then it is VERY likely a W-30. I have been down this very road you are on. Be very careful to not over pay for this car.
Also, double check the rear end with a magnet. It is getting common to see people add the cover and paint the center with aluminum paint. That rear end changes the value of the car between $5000 and $10,000 so it can be tempting for someone to be fraudulent.
Are the red inner fenders or OAI hood still there?
Does it still have the optional transmission cooler? That is a very rare option also.
The window sticker is a copy of the original so there is no back side. This is all he got from the original owner. I did not check the date code or the ratio code on the axle yet. Where would the date code be stamped on the W27 aluminum chunk? The car build date is a 12A, first week of December. I will look for the SV code of the 3:23 ratio on the axle tube. I am positive Its not a painted housing. I was aware you could only get the w27 with the w machine packages so this is what makes me believe the paperwork I have seen so far is legit. From the dirt and crud on it the rear axle has not been out of that car in a long time, if ever. It has the original OAI hood, rear deck wing, and red fender liners under the black spray paint as many did back in the day. This car has not been driven since the early 90's.
I saw your thread on your stripe delete barn find and have cruised that thread for hints also. Awesome build. Your thread will come in handy if I score this car.

The back side of 70 window sticker said "escape from the ordinary in Olds escape machine"
Also I thought the bottom part said the following items, options are options on other models are standard equipment on this model vehicle.

Depends. If the option list extends to mid sticker or lower, like the above example, the standard options are not listed. The cut off for 442s was middle of the 4th rocket from the bottom. If this sticker had two less options the standard options would have been listed.
In the 1970s I worked up a way to duplicate the typing on the stickers. It took 3 IBM Selectric ***** ("typing elements") to cover all the letters, numbers, etc. perfectly, a silk ribbon, and a ratchet with 8 lines to the vertical inch. Your copy is too light for me to check carefully the letters and numbers that are hard to match.
Roger that. It's got blue stripes. Not sure if they are original though. They look pretty close to the correct size. I will post pics when I get some. I have seen a few pictures of other white with blue. Sharp.

Bought the car in question. Got a little history on it also. It's a two owner car. I have the POP. Current owner owned it since 1981. Has not been on the road since 1984. Has some cool history. It is a little rough, but definitely something that can be saved. I will start another thread on the tear down and build. I cannot see the date code on the rear where Stefano said to look and can't search completely as it's still in the car, but it's got the SV code on the axle. Congrats! Glad it worked out for you. I just get so suspicious sometimes, because when you look at cars for sale there are way too many W30, Stage 1, Judges, etc. out there. Olds are the most difficult to document, too. It's nice to know they are still out there.
Yep! Congrats. I wonder if that was ordered to be a dealer or zone rep. demo or a "sold unit customer order". Not many dealers would have ordered a car with that equipment for inventory. I get the fact that the A/C is prevalent on Texas cars, but the M40 and W27 together isn't too common. Very neat car to say the least. Great score!
Progress has been slow since I am taking my time in tear down to document what I find. Still tearing down, cataloging parts, sourcing some parts I know are missing when I find them for sale, and doing metal work before I pull the body off the frame. I have done the metal repair in the trunk area. Will attack the floorboards next. Trying to find a body shop to hook up with that can do the final body work and paint while I do the frame and suspension.
