Time to show the 442
Well fellas, I've been a member since 2006 and seen a lot of other peoples builds so I thought it's my turn. I bought the 69 442 9 years ago. During this time I collected a lot of new metal and some original parts. The car was in rough shape to say the least, and a big project for sure. I found a 68 455 F block to replace the 72-76 Fa block. It came Trophy blue, blue interior, blue top. Turbo 400. 3.42 gears I finished the floor today which included, new floor braces,toe boards, floor, under the backseat pan. The frame is done, all new front end ,new bushings,shocks hotckis 1" lowering springs. If there's any interest I'll keep posting as now i start the trunk area. Here's some pics.

Thanks , I will be starting the trunk on Wed , It's fitted in but not welded. Like I said this is my first resto, so I might need some help along the way. Thanks

time to show the 442
Not a productive day. I felt that I could just use some sheet metal on the inner wheel wells. Not so, I'm just going to order some inner patch metal, no big deal. The car's rear end sat for 20 years over grass and it shows. You can see the new parts. Oh well I post again when the parts come in. Her's some pics, Do it right the first time.

I need help fella's .I got my inner wheelhouse patch panels delivered. Some of my peers insist that you overlap the panels and some say butt weld. What is the common concensus? Thanks

I just finished my trunk in my 67 and the way I see it is its in the trunk no one will see it over lap it unless you can weld very well. I found the key to it is to step the repair piece and weld both sides then seal it so not to let moisture in since its a wheel well seam sealer and under coating will hide the joint unless some jerk at a car show has nothing better to do that day in that case kick him in the nuts and then ask where his car is

Pitfield, I noticed your rear taillight panel is fairly
rotted. I cut one from a 69 S I parted last year
because I didn't want it going to the crusher.
If you can use it, $50 plus the ride.
Let me know and I'll send some pics over.

I had to have a qrt. from it.
Probably not worth the ride
into Canada with the shipping
costs these days, unfortunatly.
It's yours for the cost of shipping
if you still want it. I don't think I
will ever use it. Like I said, I didn't
want to see it crushed if someone

It's been a while but still here. Started the trunk this fall and almost finished, I'll post some pics tomorrow, but my question is about the trunk drop offs. I had to double check to see if I had the right ones. Has anyone else had to cut, fit, hammer, fit, bend, fit...... Not even close. Dave

I installed a set on a 69 442 conv restoration project and the ones I had fit fairly well with just minor trimming. I think mine were bought from The Parts Place at the time and I don't remember if there was a manufacturer name on them. Here are a few photos.

Hi Brian , as a matter of fact I've been using your thread as a visual guide. Thanks for such a thorough description on the build. I bought mine from Shermans and they didn't fit that easily. Granted I did change the trunk floor and inner wheel house but I've been very meticulous in reinstalling the new sheet metal as close as possible to the original. Dave

Also fellas, I'm ordering in the outer wheel houses. Should I wait until I get the 1/4 panels before I install the wheel houses. I won't be using the whole outer, just the wheel lip and front and back lower parts. Help is appreciated. Thanks Dave

You will need to have the quarters to do this correctly. I would suggest that you fit the wheelhouse parts by first overlapping them and attaching with a few screws. Fit the quarter and use screws/clamps to do that too. Also have the trunk drops screwed in place too if you didn't already weld them in place. Once you know everything will fit correctly you can go back and scribe the patch pieces on the wheelhouses so you know where to cut and butt weld them. There is a fairly large indent in that outer wheelhouse and I was able to use it as a reference for fitting the patch section for the new outer lip.

Yeah I welded them in already. However, I'll wait for the 1/4's to come in and do the outers at the same time. I have enough to do until then. Thanks, and Happy new year to all Dave

Can anyone help? I did a bunch of measuring today and I looks like something moved on me along the way. Does any one have the proper cross measurements for the body. If I have the correct numbers I't would help me in knowing were to start. Thanks Dave

I guess I'll go out and hang the doors tonight and see where I'm at. I hope they'll show the problem.Hopefully they will show what could have become a much larger problem.

Need some help, I stabilized the body and removed the rocker panel. However, when I pulled the front part of the rocker out a piece stayed inside the cowl. Has anyone encountered this and what procedure did you use to fix it. Thanks

Dave there is an inner and outer rocker panel. Did you get your quarter panel on? What happened with the body, your going to need to do a lot of bracing I am not removing my doors till the quarter panels are on... by the way there is a great article on the muscle car restorations website about 1/4 panel install I plan on doing it that way, is the body on a frame? Just trying to help dave...

Hi eddie,I didn't do much this summer on the car. I'm in the middle of putting new heating in the garage, should be starting on the car next weekend. Bracing is a must, and 1/4 panels are next. I'll check out the article, Thanks alot.
