After two attempts at replacing the trunk stickers on my "72 Supreme, I decided to try something different for the third (and final) time. When I did it the first two times, I used paper decals, and while the results were "ok", they still weren't what I was looking for. The paper ones just weren't "forgiving" enough to give me a wrinkle free finish, and the adhesive just wouldn't stay stuck. I would end up with a less than desirable look, and would have to use packaging tape just to keep them from peeling.
So I decided to give the vinyl decals a try, and let me just say that it went much better! They were much more flexible, allowing a wrinkle free application, and the adhesion is spot on.
So just in case any of you Oldsmobilers out there are wondering...plastic is way better than paper!
But Dave, wrinkles are what the factory decals do if you want the 'factory' look. Pics of the new vinyl ones?
this is my trunk. The decals were from ILT. And they apparently are vinyl. The only one that doesn't stick flat is the large jacking instructions.
Here ya go Allan...and my first two attempts were with decals supplied from ILT, and they were definitely paper. While I understand your point on the "factory" look with wrinkles, I was going for a "clean" look. Besides, if you look closely towards the lower right hand section of the large sticker, there actually are a few wrinkles 😁.
On a side note, I noticed your anti spin decal is on the right side, but the assembly manual illustrates it to be on the left. Is yours on the right as a Canadian deviation?
