Paint

I am going to try and down load the pics of my 69 cutlass. I took it out of the garage to wet sand the clear coat that is why you might see some scuff marks. It came out great for not painting a car since 1976.

Nice work!
Where did you do the painting? I'm studying up on painting to see if I can do it myself. If I do, I hope I get the same kind of results as you!

Paint

I did it in the garage right behind the car. I pulled the car out and gave the garage a good cleaning to avoid getting any dust in the paint.I set up some extra lighting to see the car better. Took out the window in the garage door and put in 2 furnace filters and an exhaust fan in the window on the side of the garage. I also took a chain and grounded the car. This really help as I only had one spot with a little dust. But as luck would have it. It was in the last coat of clear and came right out with wet sanding. I have to say I am really happy with the way it came out. Good luck on painting your car. Oh, the reason the roof looks different. I am putting a vinyl top on it.

Does the chain grounding method really work? Just curious as I have heard of this before.

Sounds encouraging that you were able to do it in your own garage. I've heard of people even dampening the floor in their garage with a garden hose to keep the dust from getting kicked up. I've also heard of people buying one of those temporary shelters, like a tent style garage, to paint their cars. Never heard of the grounding technique before.

Can I ask you what compressor and paint gun setup you used?

The compressor is a husky pro. 60 tanks that I bought at Home Depot. I used a HVLP gun. When spraying the paint it causes static. So that is why I grounded the car. Wetting the floor can cause moisture in the air.Especially if it is humid outside. I learnt the grounding tip from a body guy back in the early 70's. Seemed to work good for him. Hope this helps.

Another reason I don't wet my floor when I paint is that I would rather sand a few dust nibs than fix any water drops. I blow out the garage for days and also every single nook and cranny of the car. every channel, or hole in the frame rails, everything.I have had some very near perfect paint jobs in my garage. It is mostly prep work.
