Lead filling

First attempt at some old school lead filling. I have been unable to locate any rocker panel trims for my 58 so.i decided to plug the clip holes and leave blank. Plug welded the holes and filled out with some lead. I will say it took some understanding but it was rewarding when completed. Not 100% true yet but will get there

I can see the file marks on the lead filler. Glad you're not sanding or grinding the lead. It's too dangerous to do that, but using a vixen file makes the fill almost perfect, and doesn't leave small enough particles to be hazardous. Are you using 70-30, 60-40? or one of the lead free solders?

Pretty cool. That's a skill that not many have these days. Make sure you wear your PPE, even if you're using the lead free filler.

Hi mate. Yeah using 70/30 solder and just a body file to level out. The file works well and gives you a good feel of panel contour. Yep have heard enough bad news about the effects of lead, gloves and mask when handling.
Just using some coarse grit paper by hand to finish off.
Thanks for reply. Cheers

Cheers. Yes it's something I've always wanted to try and with my registration plate going to be "PURE STEEL" I sort of have to 👍

Do you use a big, honking, iron or a torch?

All I use is lpg with a cutting hand piece, flame adjusted to suit. Works well
