Looks great. The chrome on the front of the hood if that's the eyebrow trim stays chrome usually. The hood release part is available on line or by members here that part cars out. Glad to hear it's running better. When I bought the black car the motor was rebuilt but I had to completely redo it on my dime because they messed it up. After it was fixed I loved it. Get an oil filter cutter to open the oil filter every time you change the oil. You'll see alls well or catch it early if there's a problem like gold flakes in the filter, a sign of possible bearing issues. Not saying there is a problem, just that if there ever is you can fix it before you ruin the matching block. Enjoy the new ride.

The water squirt down the carb trick is used to steam clean the built up carbon on the pistons and and valves .Can also help loosen the rings from sticking and reseat.

Nothing on the front of a 71 should be black except for the grilles as you have them. in '72 the headlight surrounds were painted black. Maybe you are thinking of that.

Add a little methanol and water to your turbo diesel and you’ll have a real beast. My buddy did that to the truck I sold him, unfortunately not long after the add-ones he blew a head gasket.

It was a general statement to anyone who has a turbo diesel. Adding Methanol and water To a turbo diesel is similar to adding nitrous to a gas engine.

While it's apart check the bowl for small specks. Mine had flaking inside the body where the filter goes in (past the filter on carb side from today's gas) and the flakes caused float valve to stick. Mine acted like yours is. MAW look. A carb builder said he could bead blast the corrosion off in there to fix it. Good luck with it. Awesome car for the price.

That was sudden and extreme, did you try any of the many things suggested? We didn’t get any feedback. Have you done compression checks etc?
