I wish I could do you both at the same time.

So while the good guys at Wilsons Classic Car Restorations in Burlington WI are doing the top on my 71 convertible im here in Dallas waiting not so paitently. I tend to search Craigslist on a regular hoping to find some cool parts or a great deal on something. So last saturday im watching storage wars and doing my usual craigslist combing when I find a post that says. 72 Cutlass Holiday Coupe. Make me an offer or its going to the crusher.

Just to provide a little insight. I initially purchased the convertible to be my daily driver but after speaking with Lady & Rob, my dad, my girl, and just about anybody I spoke with on the matter I figured it was just too risky to drive that baby around on a regular. Especially in Dallas we will take ur car Texas. This left me dreaming for a matching hardtop that would stil feed my hunger to drive my dream car on a regular.

Before I could finish reading the post I was on the phone. The car was being used as a drag car. It had plexi glass windshields, fender wells were cut out, battery in the trunk but the floors are solid and it still has alot of original parts. The motor has all kinds of aftermarket parts, performer intake, after market ignition, wires, plugs, carb, and headers. Well to make the long story short I went up to Oklahoma to a storage facility that a guy hadnt been paying on and picked this beauty up for a dreamy price.

I now have to get the convertible home so I can put her on the back burner while I complete the hardtop. I wish I had the money, time and resources to get them both done at the same time but thats just not an option.

Ill post pics soon. I will need some help on both of them , hell I have all but destroyed a steering column trying to change an ignition switch. That being said anybody have a steering column or know how hard it is to rebuild one. It may not be that bad.

Congrats. I guess I am curious why somebody in Dallas would take a car to somebody in Wisconsin. Previous experience?

Congrats on the new addition. Time and money, there's never enough of either one.

Depending on what kind of column you need I may have one. I posted this a while back but still have most of them. John

Now that makes sense. Look forward to seeing pictures and seeing the car at some point. I don't remeber the name of it but I know there is a resto shop in Wisconsin that is supposed to be one of the best. I read an article in Old Cars Weekly about some car they did but don't remeber the name of the shiop.

I few words from a recovering caroholic. I use to have really bad AADD (Automotive Attention Deficite Disorder) I always had multiple projects going on and never anything finished. I finally sold eveything and put all the other money in the 66 convertible I used to have. I found its amazing what you can get done spending all your money and time on one project. I will still have a few cars around to repair and sell but I am trying to have only 1 true project at a time in the future.

I saw that car on cl. I too cruise cl on a daily basis. I have to tell myself that the purchase $$ could do, such and such, to my '72 or buy parts for the long term '68 project. Good luck.

So after 2 years of research and saving I finally decided to quit my job at the City and go back to school and into business for myself. I figure the only way ill be happy is if i'm doing something I love. So I start learning welding, metal fab, and basic painting in August and the custom hotrod classes start after that.

I am so excited about this, but is also brings a sad reality. I don't think having two projects while I'm trying to start my business, taking care of a family, and go back to school is logical. So I've applied por-15 to the floor and trunk, got another steering column and ignition, added a new starter, I have decided to sell the hardtop. I hate to do it but I figure if the the car thing takes off i'll be able to get another one anyway. This will also allow me to focus on the convertible.

Today I placed the car on CL and I have gotten some calls I got a guy coming to look at it in the morning. This is the second time it was on CL the first time I took it off. I guess inside I knew it would come to this. AArrrggggggg.
