1965-77 Olds Steering Columns This is an old thread, I'll update it soon.

I went through the collection (pronounced clutter!) to see what kinds of steering columns I have that I don't need for projects. Here's the list and a couple photos. There are no floor shift tilt columns but floor shift non-tilt and column shift tilt. I don't know the interior codes for the early colors but can provide the trim tags for the correct code.

1965 Cutlass Column Shift (CS) Beige $50
1965 Cutlass CS Acqua $50
1966 Cutlass CS Green $50
1966 Toronado CS no tilt/tele black $75
1968 Cutlass CS Green $50
1968 Cutlass CS Black $50
1968 Delta 88 CS Black $50
1969 Cutlass Floor Shift (FS) Black $75
1970 Cutlass FS Black $75
1970 Cutlass FS Black $75
1970 Cutlass CS Blue $50
1970 Cutlass CS Blue $50
1970 Cutlass CS Blue (repainted metallic) $50
1971 Delta CS Tilt Blue $50
1971(?) Delta CS Tilt Black $50
1971 Cutlass FS Green $75
1971 Cutlass FS Green $75
1971 Cutlass FS Sienna $75
1971(?) Toronado Tilt Tele (modified) $50
1972 Gran Prix! FS Blue (parts) $35
1972 Cutlass CS Saddle $50
1972 Cutlass CS Saddle $50
1974 Cutlass CS Black $50
1977 Cutlass CS Tilt Saddle (parts) $35
1978 Toronado Tilt Blue (parts) $35

This does not include the steering wheels or shipping costs. I've shipped columns with wheels and it's a pain to create a box for that shape! I will remove but include the blinker and tilt arms, the plate against the floor board, and the lower steering column if it's there. Here's a few examples:
P1010025-2.jpg
1969 Cutlass Floor Shift

P1010030-2.jpg
P1010031-3.jpg
1972 Gran Prix

P1010033-2.jpg
1971 Delta Tilt

P1010035-2.jpg
I wonder how much weight can I put in the rafters?

2Blu442,

Geeze Lousie,

Now that's a few columns, good luck with your sale [and your rafters holding up]

Do you by chance have a 66 Amphicar is your collection?

Not unless it has Oldsmobile parts on it!

"In this part of the world they call me Ishmael.... I mean Packrat!" But say that with reverence in your voice. If they ever ban our old cars from the highways I'll have the most expansive collection of useless stuff in the Pacific Northwest

I expect shipping will add $25-50 for the lower 48 states so we'll see what kind of interest there is on these items. I'd like to help out members of the brotherhood here before sending them to ebay. John

getnolds, I think the 67 and 68 B body columns would be the same. But I don't have a lot of experience with the full sized cars. Would you post a thread in the full sized section asking that question? I know there are several guys on this site who know a lot about these cars. For shipping costs send me your zip code and I'll get that for you. John

Do you have a tilt/column-shift for my '66 F-85 Deluxe?

If so, how much, shipped to NC (27360)?

Thanks!

Hi John- Hope this reaches you! Lookin' for '67 Cutlass Supreme upper control arms. I want to refurbish them (bead blast, paint and new bushings, etc. Would you happen to have a set (left & right) for sale ? By the way, the kick-down switch is still performing great, but I don't trust the front end enough to drive the '67 around lately. Please give me a shout. Thanks & take care! Jim

Hi Jim
Glad to hear the switch is still working fine. Sad to hear about the front end. Are the A-arms damaged or can you just replace the bushings and ball joints?

I have some from 1968-72 but not 1967. Do you know if other years interchange? John

Hello Ismo
I'll have to dig through my parts to see what I have. I know I've got a 1966 Toronado column and a 1967 Olds 98. I'm not sure if either of those are the same but I can take some photos to send to you. John

John- The old arms are fine. I'd like to get another set to pre-fab the bushings, ball joints, etc. just to save some time. If I run into any unforeseen trouble ("Murphy's Law" !!!) pressing out the old or pressing in the new stuff using the old arms, I'm up the creek until I locate some new arms. The extra set will be merely a cushion for me. If I don't have any problems after I swap out the parts, maybe I can pass the old arms on to somebody who needs them. Thanks for the response & take care. Jim

Hi John!
First and second picture shows how the automatic gear shift lever is broken.
Third picture shows which kind singal lever car have (in picture I have new signal lever in my hand), if that helps. I don't know if they are similar model, course the signal lever is smaller.
Thanks Ismo

Miniucco, the columns that might interchange all have the same piece broken! Here's the closest I can come up with and I think it's on a 1968 Delta 88 column. Looking at your pictures it looks to have a different bend in the arm. John

Can I use a 73 Olds 98 tilt column shift steering column for my 71 Cutlass Supreme floor shift non-tilt column. Any way to mix and match parts and get a functioning tilt/floor shift column for the 71?
Thanks, Jay

Hi Jay
I'm not sure, that may be a good question to post on the General Discussion section. What parts are you needing for your floor shift tilt column?

Panos, I don't know if I have a floor shift column that will work for you or not. I'll have to look and get back to you. John

2blu442,
I have a good non-tilt floor shift in the 71 cutlass but want a tilt.
The 73 98 has a good tilt/column shift. Just wondering if I could combine parts and end up with a tilt/floor shift for the 71.

You could probably put your 71 wheel on the 73 column and weld the 71 firewall flange to the 73, but that's about it.

Tilt columns have springs and gears that allow the wheel tilt, and the floor shift column probably doesn't have the provision inside of it.

Yes I know it's old. I'm just hoping for the best. I'm new to rebuilding cars and in need of a tilt steering column. I did a Google search and this thread came up. Again, I know it's old but it was worth a shot to me!

Is the 71 Delta CS tilt still available? Does it have a key? Do you have any idea what the shipping charge would be to zip code 11755? Thank you.

Sorry, the blue Delta column has been sold. I had another one of a similar vintage, I don't remember if its gone yet or not. I'll take a look to see what I can find. Check back with me next weekend if you don't hear from me sooner.

Hi Dan
I don't have an extra tilt column that would fit, but I do have the regular column shift from a 1964-65. John
