72 convertible refurb
I have a repop bumper on mine. It appears to be off by about the same amount as yours about 1/2" to,the drivers side. I have adjusted until I am blue in the face and cannot get it exactly right. My suggestion is to get everything lined up like you want before paint.
Dave, can the 2 long braces that bolt to the center of the bumper go out any further? Either from there or where they attach to the frame? It looks like the gap at the center is tight there on both sides. It should be the same all the way across (I know you know that). Are you using lock washers or flat washers on them? This doesn't look like a fun job.
Didn't realize you have bumperettes (V36) option on your car. If the rubber is in bad shape? Those parts are being reproduced in the US. LMK if you need the vendor name/location. I bought a set for my front bumperettes and they're ok, but about an inch shorter than OEM on the bottom. Top and front are spot on though.

First and foremost, Happy Canada Day! eh!
There is plenty more adjustment in the front braces Allen, the bumper itself is just way out of whack and would need to be removed and straightened. (did not look so bad when the care was that far off as well!) The bumper is only temporary driver... the back side is very deeply pitted, and the chrome is beginning to peel on the front in a couple of spots.
The rubber on the original Bumperettes is in decent condition... a few scuffs but nothing serious. I need to find a decent set for the rear bumper. It helps in parking lots... (I intend to drive the snots out of this thing... Edmonton is NOT out of the question on the way to the Canadian Rockies...)

Thanks, eh!
I believe I have 2 sets of rear bumperettes, but they also need replacement rubber inserts (they have scuffs too) and the chrome is so so. It would likely cost a lot to send to FL, but I can check that if you're interested.
Does your new front and rear bumpers have the piercings for the bumpettes? None of the repop places offer ones with piercings, and I'm not quite sure how to drill or pierce them without screwing up the plating.
Hey, if you're ever up this way going through the Rockies, LMK and I'll be expecting you.

I may be able to get some originals out of Tampa... where I got my hood, the guy has TONS of oldsmobile stuff... He must have had 30 project cars in there waiting their turn...
Why are you not out grilling and partying? Or at least polishing that gorgeous car of yours? Don't squander the good weather on the forum... I am under a tropical storm watch... watching it rain... Can't get enough stuff out of the way to maybe move the car outside for the first time in 9 years!
As you can see, she is filthy dirty from all the wrenching going on... and accumulated dust!

Okee dokey. Grilling later today. Demolished the old deck over a week ago and started on the new one, but weather and life holding up completion. So it'll be a grill on the grass I guess.
Good to know you can get stuff locally. Up here the market on the older cars has dried up more than the Sahara desert. Hope your storm watch and weather settles down. I just did a quick look at the temps down your way. That's quite a storm on the weather radar. YIKES, I couldn't handle that heat and humidity. You're a better man than I am my friend. I'll hoist a cool one for you!

Got the front marker lights in this morning. Still need to finish up the rebuild of the directionals and install those. Started it up and ran it for about 30 mins.... Brakes seem to be bled pretty well now.
Now I need to tweek the idle and adjust timing. Not much info on the slayer carb online at their site..... Allen there is no way I could survive your winters. To much titanium in me.

Adjusted the linkage on the transmission AND REMEMBERED to tighten it up this time! Playing BATMAN today... hanging upside down under the dash with feet over the back of the seat connecting harnesses and running gauge wires...
I will have this drivable soon I hope! (kiss of death!)
The connectors are hooked up! took about 2 hours to get 4 connectors disconnected from old harness remains and then hook up the new one! Now the wiring and installation of the gauges.... Tach, trans temp, trans pressure...

Yeah, the bench seat is still in.... The worst is over I hope... until I do the interior, switch over to buckets, console, tilt...and install new dash and wiring harness... I will need a years break before that though.
And to top it off, the garage gremlins have hidden away my wire crimpers...

Oh well. At least a bench seat is easier to work around than buckets and a console. What was the problem with the shift linkage? I had fun with that last year when I did mine. I didn't put any loc tite on it to hold it but it really hasn't been used. Right side pic is before removal and clean up. Really easy job even for me. Only thing you have to remember is to lube the ball fitting and put the wave washer back. Follow the instructions in the CSM for selector position and you're golden.
Swapped over to a 200r4. uses a different linkage completely... I forgot to put a bolt through the arm that clamps on the spline. It worked itself off, and I had to get under there and undo it, adjust it the install the bolt... doesn't sound like much, but fighting gravity on the up and down is a chore! While I was there I installed the wire for the temperature gauge for the transmission.
I no longer use the linkage you show. A single rod with ball end fittings, an arm and that is it!

Allen, TV cable is in and hooked up, may need to be adjusted still.... I have not had it moving yet...
The TV ez system by Bowtie Overdrives is supposed to be slick and actually easy. If you have an edelbrock, the adjustment is virtually automatic now. (especially if you use one of their transmissions)
I have a Slayer Carb on mine so more tinkering required...
Added gauges are installed and wired up. Next weekend I hope to get the last guage I ordered, and install it and finish refurbing the front directional lights and installing them.... plush about a gazillion wire ties...
Then it is back on the ground, and we will hopefully have instruments and.... dare I say.... mobility?

Q-Jet for me Dave. From what I've read on the 200 4R though, if you don't dial in that TV cable right you can pooch the tranny within a couple blocks. I'll be waiting to hear how yours turns out.
200-4r backdrive linkage

Can you post a pic of your 200-4r back drive linkage? Where did you buy the parts? I'm planning to install a 200-4r behind a 350 in my car. I knew of the TV cable kit and the Shiftworks kit to modify the console shifter for the extra gear, but I've not read anything about replacing/upgrading the stock back-drive linkage. Is this required for the 200-4r? Thanks.
Rodney
Allen, check out the articles on Bowtie Overdrives web site. Ask a lot of questions, the folks there that I have talked with are very helpful.
Rodney, I have a column shift at the moment. The shift linkage goes directly from the arm on the column to a bolt on arm on the transmission. I will be getting into the whole console buckets tilt swap in about a year or so...

OK, Tach, trans temp and pressure gauges are in and hooked up, most of the wiring is tie-wrapped in place. Refurb of the front directional lights is in process, hope to finish that today. Installation of directionals will hopefully finish up wiring... (until the A/C refurbishment...and bucket seat/console conversion in a year or 2...) Then on to installing the A/C box and wheel wells... The n the really HUGE project! cleaning up and putting everything away so I can actually move the car!
I am too embarrassed to post pictures! I need to get the area cleaned up so I can ACTUALLY move the car under its own power. I have a donor cowl portion in the way, various and sundry spare parts that need to be stored until the body work phase, more for the interior phase... then there is the airplane projects...(4 of those) The trim for the interior of the house, (yes I will install that after the car is up and running!) Spent 2 hours this afternoon and did not really even make a dent.
Got the plastic dust shield installed on the transmission, and bolted in the A/C box on the firewall. The Front lights have been successfully tested, I just need 1 more LED bulb to fit...Then I can button up the front turn signals! Running out of connectors on the wiring harness in the engine bay. I hope that means I am almost done putting it back together.... until body work time.
I have not done much on the car... life just got in the way! I took 6 months off work to de-stress and do honey do's around the house, and sort out my little airplane. Also had to make a few wood toys for my grandson. Finally got into the car project a little today, and managed to remove a gremlin from the wiring for the electric choke. Now I hope to continue buttoning up and get it ready to roll under its own power. Transmission gages (pressure and temp) and tach are installed. I think the hood is next and then the wheel well liners...
I started the car up and ran it for about 1/2 an hour today. I hope to get the hangar cleaned out enough to move the car out and around the building. THAT will be a major effort... I need to get the wiper motor installed and hooked up, then install the hood... after that is the wheel well liners and front directional lenses... Should be road worthy by that point so I can check all the transmission shift points and pressures.
Well, it is not exactly the runway, but it is the over run area for the runway... It is great living in a community like this. Some really nice cars as well as antique aeroplanes.
Dave:
My neighbor a few years back, was building an airplane in the garage of his townhouse. He worked for Shell and spent most of his free time on this project. My background is electrical engineering, so when he got to the wiring and avionics stage of his project, he recruited me to help tag and label the individual wires and solder all the connectors. I got a huge kick out of flying with him in that plane (it was a 2-seater, tandem style) about 2 years later. He eventually moved to Florida to live in a community with an airstrip. His name was All (I don't remember his last name). Maybe he's one of your neighbors -LOL.

I am currently in the "School of hard knocks" taking a course in QFT Slayer tuning... It's like setting up a Holley, except when it isn't... Instructions? you don't get no stinking instructions! So I have been searching the dark corners of the web and slowly getting my info sorted out. (It was 20 years back that I did an Edelbrock, and that was not bad at all! info everywhere...) It is so darn close, I can almost taste success...
Wrestled the wiper motor into place today... has anyone tried using studs to mount that instead of bolts? I am thinking when it comes out again, of changing to studs. What a PAIN to install those 3 bolts!
On the Carb tuning front, it seems to be idling pretty well. going in baby steps with connecting vacuum hoses to track down leaks.

Allen and Crod could you please post a picture of your wiper motor installation showing the electrical connectors?? I am lost, and getting more lost going thru the body manual, assembly manual and service manual... It shows the connector in the electrical schematic, but I cant figure out orientation and it seems to fit either way around! Thanks!
