Hey I'm new to the site and new to olds but I just recently picked up a 71 Cutlass project but for some reason I can't get the hood to release from the inside of the car. Is there a way to open it from the out side or what are my options ?

 

I thought the inside option was just a lock, and you still had to release the hood using the T handle at the center of the bumper.

 

Ahh my bumper is damaged I had no idea there was a handle there. If you don't mind could you get me a pic of where yours is so I have a better idea of where to feel around at

 

Sorry no pictures. I looked for some online and couldn't find anything.

The primary release (T handle in the image above) is in the center of the bumper, in the opening right below the center grille nose piece. Pull the handle and the hood will pop up, then reach into the gap just right of center and lift up the secondary release lever.

 

It's possible the "T" is broken and you'll just need to fish for the rod which should be dangling there. That's what I have to do until I get to the "fix the T" item on my to do list.

 

It was broke I was able to get it open
