70 Cutlass Supreme restoration

Well, the flu and kidney stones slowed me down a bit but I just got my rotisserie delivered and picked up a new welder for the project and will probably have the body off the frame on Sunday. Looking at butt welding a few patches in the trunk along with frame supports in the trunk and some of the same on the floor. It's in pretty good shape since seeing it's a Connecticut car that was driven in winters until 1988 and been in storage in a non climate control garage since 1991 or so. Here is a few pics. I should have taken some of the mold/mouse seats but I don't want to remember it in that way, LOL

Are the floors rusted through or is it on the surface?

drivers corner where it meets the bottom of firewall/cowl and passenger side right at the center support but fairly limited considering it's a Northeast car. Also right lower window, about a 2 inch hole and it needs quaters. Doors are perfect, rockers are perfect. I'm gonna sand blast the floors and trunk as well as undercarriage, hopefully won't turn up any more rust

That's the reason I decided to go as far as taking the body off the frame. Being a Supreme with QB engine code, one of about 500, M21, 3:91, ralley gauges with the tach, console, rally wheel, I like the sherwood green, black halo top and black int and being lucky enough to have all the original equipment including vin matched trans, engine, original rear, brake booster, master, calipers, bell type rear drums and driveshaft with the original U-joints in good shape I can invest the amount of time/money and not loose my shirt for what it's worth. I've had the car since I was 18yo so I don't plan on selling it but it's nice to know it's not gonna be upside down investment/worth when I"m done.

next step is to find out if the guy who ordered it is still alive. He or his family owns a trucking company in the town I live in and it was delivered to the next town over. The dealer is long gone, most recently was a Fiat dealer, LOL

further progress

The last 3 weeks I have had to deal with the flu, surgery for kidney stones, now I"m still anemic but took advantage of the snowy day and was able to get the body and frame separated and will mount the body to a rotisserie this weekend and start cutting, grinding and welding starting with the frame supports in the trunk and repairing the trunk the to the int floors. I welded tabs on the hinge brackets and took height and using a plum bob will keep everything square when doing the supports

got it on the rotisserie and started sand blasting. I'm thinking I might hire somebody to blast the int/undercarriage. It's slow work with a small blaster. Had to include a pic of my mom since she put up with it being in her small one car garage since 1991

Finished up stripping the hood, doors and trunk as well as scraping about 10lbs of undercoat from the wheel wells and floors in preparation of my appointment for a mobile blaster to strip what's left of the base primer on the body parts as well as the interior and undercarriage this Friday. Can't wait to be to bare metal then epoxy prime everything. Then on to making trunk and floor repairs then onto the quarters.

Thanks. When I was younger I used it to do a lot of side work, now that I"m older and more set I can concentrate on the more fun things in life like restoring this car I've had since 1986 and has been in storage since like 1991

Subscribed! Very cool car, and even cooler with the options. I especially like seeing a Supreme getting the love in the sea of 442 resto projects...

I bet you've thought about many of these steps for this project for a while now, must be fun to get the ball rolling - clearly hitting the ground running!

LOL, actually, partially true. My original intentions were to do the interior, brakes, some mechanical repairs and drive it for the summer and do a body on paint etc. after this summer. Once I realized an army of mice got at it and the dash was out and interior gutted a friend of mine and I were standing in the garage and he's like , you should just do it all at once cuz you'll never take it back off the road, the next thing you know here I am. I am having fun with it though.

Blasted and primed

Spent all day Friday with the sand blast guy, pretty much all day Sat cleaning up the car and garage then all day Sunday priming all of the int, undercarriage and panels I plan to use. 1.5 gallons of PPG DP90LF and the help of a friend and it's coated in primer now on to panel replacement and floor repairs
