Where you located FOO, looks like Michigan or Northern Ohio rust?

 

I'm located around the Syracuse NY area

 

That's a Framingham car. It didn't venture too far from the assembly plant huh.

mine was very rough when I started my project but I had good floor pans,minimal rust on quarters,normal rot on lower rear front fenders etc.
you are taking in a major build compared to mine and I thought I was crazy!no offense meant!I love to see someone save oneyou have a long road ahead of you and please keep us posted with picks.the pic of the cowl to windshield rust is what I'm gonna tackle this winter,but again mine is bad but not that bad.everything is repairable

Good luck with the project. I predict you will be very good at welding when you are finished. Are you doing a frame-on or frame-off resto?
I did my floors frame on. I replaced the pan and one floor support brace. I used goodmark panels that fit very nice. The installation will come out very clean with large pieces. From underneath, you can hardly tell they were replaced.

You would be way ahead to start with a car with less rust.

 

Question about he frame of the 442: The rear of it, or last cross member, is it natually bent downward in the center?

 

It has to clear the gas filler tube.

 

Yeah but then that would be once less 442 out there.

Don't give up on it u can fix it. mine was worst. bring that olds back to life.

 

im not sure if there is worse if you look at all the rust now that its completely striped, there might not be a car left if it was worse haha, but there is no way im turning my back on it

I know I arrived after the party went home, but just for kicks I have your VIN and Cowl tag info decoded. You prolly already did that?

Cowl (note there are duplications)
ST - 70 = 1970 model year

body is still untouched other than tore down from all inners that were left in that old pic, Im working on tight budget so Its gonna be waiting till after I get the engine fixed up and put on.

Thats the idea Im trying to kick my butt in to gear and get things done.

 

I decided to connect the differential to the frame(excuse my poor skills at photographing). UMI Upper+Lower Control arms, UMI reinforcing arms, MOOG Springs, KYB shocks

 

Looking good. I have a 70 from Framingham too.

 

Never truer words spoken, take bites at a time not try to swallow the whole thing at once as long as your "chewing" it will eventually get done.

I found the times that funds were low, I could work on things that didn't cost money, like cleaning parts, restoring parts, etc, just do not be like me and forget where you put them after you finished them.

looks like outstanding work so far.

I will offer another piece of advice, have the body blasted so you know what you have, and it will save you literally weeks of work......

I had the same problem. I took a 1/2" off the spacer too
