Looking very nice! The reassembly process can get tedious...I love the springs... My ex lives there tho... If ya ever wanna do the flaming bag of dog doo on the front steps trick, I may be able to get an address for ya. I bought mycar up in Eagle in the early 80s.

Got around to putting the outside door handles and locks on. I had to repair the nylon wheels in the driver's door window regulator. After installing the outside door handles and locks I reinstalled the door panels, window cranks and handles too.

Updated pix.

Here are some updates from the last couple days....

Ok, I finally got the tach installed. Had to use a 1k Ohm resistor on the signal wire on the HEI to make it work right. I killed two tachs hooking the green wire directly up to "TACH" output on the dizzy and I read online where a guy put a 1/2 Watt 1k Ohm resister on the wire to make his work, so I tried it and now mine works! While I was under the dash I also hooked up the dash lights to the oil/alt/temp/tach guages too. Now I need to get a radio in it and fix the shift indicator and the fuel gauge.

Progress from today. For the most part the floors are SOLID, but there were a few small pinholes poking through so I welded the holes up, sanded, and then shot the pans with paintable rubberized undercoating. I figure the undercoating will protect against further rust holes and will also serve as a sound deadener for comfort. pics are attached.

While picking up the undercoating I also found a seat cover for it, comes with one cover and two headrest covers! I will try to get the carpet kit and seat cover installed by Monday so I can continue putting miles on it Tuesday.

Believe it or not, its actually a sealer. I had a buddy strip all the layers of extra paint off of it and seal it. Normally the sealer is a gray but I asked if he could tint it to a flat black so I could enjoy it and keep working on it as Im driving/enjoying it.

The color actually came out better then expected as it resembles more of a matte or satin black rather then a total flat. I am very pleased with the contrast of the chrome polished pieces against the matte black canvas that was produced.

Right now Im just hoping to get it ready for GoodGuys in Loveland, CO next weekend. After that I may take it to Street Rod Nationals in Pueblo, CO shortly after. Until then I am driving it everyday to an from work putting about 30+ miles on it per day. The engine feels real good and is breaking in nicely. I already performed the 500 mi oil change, Ive gone through almost 2 tanks of gas and the oil is staying nice and clean.

After I get all these goodies in it I need to build a panel for the rear deck when I install the "by nine's" in the rear to my two **** radio in the dash. Then headliner and that just about wraps it up until I find the time to perform more rust repair in the typical GM places (quarters, drivers fender under the emblems) unless I sell it first. I figure as long as I have it I may as well keep fixing, repairing, and restoring until someone else determines they have to have it worse then me.

Ok updates from today. Prepared the floor for the new carpet. Laid it out in the sun for a couple hours to get the wrinkles out, removed the seats and seat belts, and vacuumed the metal floor to make it clean for the carpet.

I had some help too.

Once we got the carpet in, cut, and the holes cutout for the seatbelts and seats we started working on the seat. Here are before and after pics of the seat. I know its not a direct recover and its just a universal but I think it came out ok for $40. At least it will make it a nicer drive.

Its weird. I found a build sheet in the bottom of the seat too. seems like it has all the options listed that the car has. does that sound right?

Well, I had it listed for $5800/obo and nobody was offering. I know this 79 Vette is worth more then $5800 since its orig 86k and orig engine.

My goal is to downsize, however that happens whether I sell the Olds or sell the Vette, it has to happen. I figure I have just expanded my buyer audience by at least 5 fold by trading for the Vette.

Now we will see how long it takes me to sell the Vette so I can concentrate on my other projects.

And to think, all this started with a $500 Yamaha Blaster. heh.
