It was fun for me to build my w30 and share it with everyone on this forum I couldn’t wait to start another project. I recently acquired a 69 F85 W31, it is the Dick Davis race car. This car is very cool, it has a race history and was in Muscle Car Review Magazine as a barn find. After i finished up my w30 i was searching for the next project and came across this car on Facebook. And thought it would be a cool car to add to the collection. The previous owner Tom spent the last 7 to 8 years doing research on previous owners, collecting hard to find parts and putting his blood and sweat into this car. I was lucky enough to acquire and continue the project. This car has a cool story and my intention is to restore it back to the first day Mr.Davis brought it home. The goal is to have this car complete and in the Mcacn show in 2027. After going to the show this year I got extremely motivated to get moving on this project. The car was previously at mcacn in the barn find section in 2017 so it would be awesome to go back 10 years later good as new. My brother James, the guys from the you tube channel Auto Refinery Steve and Joe as well as Tom will all be apart of this car. As always your guys opinions and criticisms good or bad are great motivators for me thank you in advance. Check out some pics
Super cool Nick, and glad to see you restoring this rare piece of automotive history!! Based on how you restored your 69 w-30, this car is going to be stunning when completed. Lets go MCACN 2027!!
Great to see another one getting saved. I really enjoyed following your last effort so it'll be fun to see this take shape. What trans and rear gear was it born with? Also, any idea why it doesn't appear to have the scoops in any of the period photos?
Not sure about the scoops, i have 2 pictures from the day he brought it home one of the engine bay which it has the hoses for the scoops and a side shot. Car was born with a m20 and 3.91 rear gear
That is a very cool car with a sweet racing pedigree.
It looks like the work done so far has put you ahead in the game.
I know you’re restoring it to factory condition…but I hope you get some vinyl magnets to dress up one side to “as raced” condition.
(just a thought!)’
Good luck, can’t wait to see the preogress.
This is going to be great fun to watch happen. After finally seeing Nicks W-30 in person I will say that he has some incredible skills and one of those is his good old fashioned work ethic. This boy does NOT slow down. Here we go is right !!!!!

Looks like they might have been in the way of the tow hook mounts.
I got a few things done this weekend until i ran out of welding gas. Im gonna replace both inner and outer wheel houses they’re pretty boogered up. I have nos outer wheel houses and i got the inners from parts place, I also have a set of nos quarter panels that ill be installing on the car. My goal is to have both quarters installed by New Years. Here’s a few pics
I got the driver side inner and outer wheel house installed and welded in, also got the passenger side cutout and started prepping it. Passenger side was pretty ugly compared to the driver side. Here’s a couple pics
Hope everyone had a happy holidays, right now i got both inner and outer wheel houses on both sides complete. The back end of the trunk is patched in and got the driver side quarter panel test fit. Next I’m gonna clean up all the metal structure behind the quarter and seal it, prep the panel and weld that sucker in
Damn nice metal work.. did you use a cut off wheel on the quarter panel or something else? Looks to smooth to have been a cut off wheel? Excellent job..
Took the wire wheel to the under structure then sprayed Eastwoods rust inhibitor on it, then sprayed Eastwoods weld through primer over areas im gonna weld the quarter too.
I got the driver side quarter panel on and ab 1/2 way welded up, and then went ahead and removed the roof skin cleaned it up with the wire wheel and sealed it up with rust inhibitor and weld through primer where ill be plug welding
Got the rest of passenger quarter off and got the new one mocked up. Hopefully i can get the quarters complete and the roof skin test fit in next couple weeks
I love the car and all but I wouldn’t have bought it if I couldn’t track down nos quarters, plus the car came with nos rubber f85 flooring and thats super cool. I haven’t ever seen the flooring for sale but rumor has it the owner of inline tube has 2 sets of nos f85 rubber floor.
This is my second set of nos quarters, i got one set from Ron Memmer for my w30. And this car i got the driver side from my buddy Bill and passenger side from Ron. I could be wrong but i think all nos quarters have the sail unless it’s a convertible. These parts are still out there just gotta find them

I bought a NOS black set from James Kryta (In-line Tube) for my 65 442
I was also fortunate enough to find a nice red set for my other car, which is an early takeout and it’s like NOS.
I enjoyed watching your build on the last car and I am tuned in on this one. What a great car.
Last night i got a lot done on this old girl. Passenger side quarter is on and the roof skin is tacked in place, i was really surprised how well the roof skin fit with minimal mods. Here’s couple pics, ill get this all welded in on Sunday and start working on patching holes on floor.
