1969 cutlass build **PICS**

My name is Derek I live in Kansas, Picked this car up fairly locally and have always loved the Cutlass since my first car was a 1970 cutlass and after selling it in 2008 Ive regretted it ever since, so the opportunity came to pick up this 69 in a good project state so the fun begins.....

I have found a 455 for it so it will go into the machine shop this winter for freshening up it has the Ga heads on it, finding parts and pieces for it along the way that its missing will be a fun project over the next couple years.

Welcome aboard. Looks like a nice project. I think you'll find the dash assembly on the 68/69 is more of a pain to work on than the 70-72 versions. Quite the skid of bondo on the left side. Was the original color Crimson Red (code 52)?

Im not sure, would I look at the tag in the eng compartment for that? Yeah the bondo on the driver side is the biggest issue. story was a guy got into the side of it in a race, ive felt on the inside and they did a decent job pushing everything back out so its not very thick

Yes, it's called the cowl tag. Shows some information about the car as the Fisher plant that produced it documented before sending it to final assembly.

Well PNT 52 50 means that the color was indeed Crimson red lower body and Cameo white upper. In other words this is a 2 tone car from the factory. That's the first year (69) that Olds went from a letter base on the paint to number base. A few years after this started the typical # for Cameo White was 11.

Your car body shell was built at Freemont in the first week of March 1969 (03A) on the cowl tag. The other numbers behind that are related to the build sheet (final production line at Freemont) boxes 1 and 10.

Code 940 on the trim is not a bucket seat car though. It's a bench seat car according to my sources. That's standard seating for the 1969 Cutlass S. The upgrade would be to an A51 Strato Bucket Seat. Only the Cutlass S vert came equipped with buckets as a standard feature.

Original sticker price on the 69 Cutlass S was 2904.50 and then went up as you added options.

well I just got the eng delivered and the guy said it had Ga heads and sent me pictures of the head well turns out I have on J head and one Ga head. what does this do to me? do I "need" to match the heads looking at flow numbers the Ga ex and J ex are about 30 cfm diff at .500 and the intake was also different but not as great maybe 20 cfm I believe.

snuck off to the shop Saturday and pulled my mismatched heads off the 455 to inspect the bore for the rebuild. was happy with what I seen very shiny bore so should be a good candidate for the project.

Made some progress this weekend got the control arms back on and all new steering and front shocks so it is moveable now if need be again. all went fairly smoothly getting the springs to compress with no weight on the front end was fun but with a couple volunteers to sit on the frame we got it done.

made it back out to do some more work on the car, still working on getting everything cleaned up and painted. was able to get the rear end removed so I can keep wire wheeling the underside to prime and paint. Picked up a set of G heads from a fellow CO member to replace my mismatched heads. Just picked up the transmission parts and will be having the trans rebuilt here in the next couple weeks. Making progress slowly but surely. hoping to have the underbody cleaned and painted in the near future. Here are a couple pictures of the progress. Thanks everyone

Was going threw old photos last night and stumbled onto pictures of my first cutlass in all of her glory. It was a 1970 when I bought it she was green, blue, brown and primer grey and I loved every bit of it. drove it that way for quite a while when your 15 you do what you have to.

once again THANK YOU to everyone, its easy to get stuck in a rut when you don't feel like your gaining any ground with a big project. I look through all of your builds and projects and it motivates me to get back out and keep at it.

Been a long time since Ive posted an update life gets busy and when I do get a chance to go out I dont always take pictures. We are getting VERY close to finally getting it ready to fire up for the first time. Exhaust is all on and plumbed out the rear so it wont be just open headers. Working on getting the gauges installed to monitor everything. Heater hose vacuum hoses etc. Trans cooler lines topping off all the fluids and double and triple checking as much as I can before I hit the key. starting to take shape Have one fender back on will have the other on in a day or so. SO hopefully not much longer until we breath life back into the car. sorry the pictures are the wrong way they were saved the looking the right direction

Looking for assistance. Stabbed the dist rotor facing one then realized the vac pod on dist facing driver side. Does it matter which side it’s on as long as I can turn it? Also does turning it ccw advance timing as well? Thanks in advance (no pun intended) lol

Dammit Dood! That sounds nice! Would you mind giving some stats on the engine and exhaust? Congrats on getting it running. Won't be long until you are burning the tires off.
