1969 442 Questions

I just purchased a 69 442 convertible and was wondering about using parts from a 60 442 Holiday Coupe.

How many parts are interchangable? Would the frame all match up? Bumpers? Front quarters? Just wondering if for $1500 its worth to have for some parts that would be able to match up and be used on my convertible

Thanks

Did you mean 69? Don't think there was a 60 442.

Many parts are the same. Some are convertible only. Front clip, doors, rear quarter skins (can be made to work) drive train parts, bumpers, suspension, wheels, many small items etc..are the same. The frame, glass, back seat, trunk lid, some trim pieces just to mention a few are convertible specific etc...Is it worthy of a restoration or is it too far gone? If its worthy please don't scrap/strip it. Rather let it go or sell it whole and look for something too far gone and not salvageable to strip/part.

Thanks for the info. Im going to see it for the first time on friday.

I thought the GM A frame was pretty universal for most from 68-72? Mine was welded and the frame would be what im most interested in

The 68-72 GM A body frames are interchangeable, but only vert to vert and coupe to coupe. The vert frame is fully boxed whereas the coupe is not under the doors. The front & rear horns are the same. The trans cross member is different, the verts not as wide to allow it to fit into the boxed frame. If you are a talented welder you can make it work. Some have put a vert frame under a coupe. Even the factory did that in the mid 60s special order. You need the boxed center section under a vert for structural support because the roof is missing. Some have put a coupe frame under a vert. But this requires lots of metal fab to box it in and fit the trans mount. Your better off trying to find a 68-72 vert frame if yours is totally shot.

Is the weld cracking? Why do you think it needs replacement?
I'd ask a frame shop for their opinion before trying to replace a frame, as todays welds are actually stronger than the welded materials.
