1964 cutlass convertible
well, here it goes. I am so not a computer guy, so if there are things that seem incomplete, or my page is lackin stuff, let me know. I am quite willing to share information, I just dont know how to get it there, K with that said. I got me a 64 cutlass last year. I am the oldest in the family and dad had one when I was a kid and claimed it was his last hotrod before starting the family. He complained non-stop about selling it and wish he had never done so. Even my wife was willing to get him one just to shut him up. His was a 442 hardtop tho, but we found this one and he was more excited to do a frame off than I was! so we snagged her and started right away. ill post some pics to show you the progress. I hope I do it right and dont muff up the site in anyway. please let me know if I am doing something wrong here on this site. I love it alot! you guys are awesome!!

up to date
K, I Think that gets us up to date, Like I said I am starting the chasis, so if you have any good advice im listenin. I am going to do a four wheel disc conversion, dont know what right now, so advice is good, and I am going to be putting a new exaust system on, so again what would you think would be best with a warmed over 455? putting a TH400 behind her.

Muffers will make the biggest difference there. I am a big fan of the Dynomax welded ultraflo muffers. They have a real queit mello sound until you let them rip and they come alive.
I used 3.5" ones on a buddies 800HP street truck. There were plenty of fast race cars at the track that never saw it comming.

new springs
Im wondering where would be the best place to get new springs for my 64 cutlass, as Ive said before I am doing a complete frame off, and am assuming new springs would be in order over keeping the old ones.

disc brake conversion
So, I am also thinking of doing a disc brake conversion, as stated in earlier posts. What I was doing was looking at FireBird or Camaro 80's cars for the whole brake system. What I want to know is if this is a good idea to save some money? or do I spent the big dollar on a after market setup?

Best bang for the buck on brakes is stock 69-72 Abody brakes. None of the Camaro stuff will work without doing a tall spindle swap and you don't want to do that. It was the thing to do 15 years ago but its since been discovered creates a bad bump steer situation on A-bodies.

Richard! thanks so much for sharing your knowledge! you have been so good to share, I do appreciate your oppinion, and would like to see one of the stance you talk about for lowering springs. Yes I do want to keep the 17" cragers, so I would like to imagine what it would look like lowered a touch as you say.
Thanks so much for the info on the brake hookup too! I totaly was ready to get a old junker that sounds like it wouldnt fit.
thanks so much again!

Mine had 18's and was lowered about 4" . I would at least lower yours about 2" or if you want to come over to the dark side I can give you a combo that will have passengers wondering what kind of car they are riding in when you take a 30mph curve at around 60

you got my attention
I don't have any pics of a little lowered but you can go here to see some finished pics of my old car.

So, now I guess we need to talk. what is the "dark side" and im very into makin this ol girl a little modern. the interior is not going to look stock, although the dash and center console will stay the same. just nice tweaks here and there, as you know from the first of this thread, im puttin in a 455 that has been built a little hotter than the stock high performance 69 442, so that isnt stock, now lets talk about how we are going to be takin that corner nice and snug to the ground while hittin 60 !!!

I was not talking interior. I was talking suspension and brakes. My car handled like a modern sports sedan. If you want to take a peek down that rabbit hole. Chevelles.com has a pro-touring section that you can learn a ton from. Everything you can do to a Chevelle can be done to your Cutlass.
