1962 Starfire
Here is my latest project. I should have it ready for next year's race season. The drivetrain consists of a BTR 506 dynoed at 821 HP, turbo 400, 4200 converter, Olds 9.3 diff narrowed 6 inches with 4.56 gears, spool and 35 spline axles. Coil overs / disc brakes on all four corners with 36" ladder bars. I mini tubbed the car 3" a side. The car will retain the factory interior with the roll bar. Hoping to get the car deep into the ten's

Is this the worlds first '62 Starfire drag car?!?! It's refreshing to see that you started with something different than the usual Chevy/Ford. What is the weight if the car - just curious if you found that out yet

I am not sure what the race weight is. I am hoping it will be 4200 lbs with me in it. Unfortunately I will have to cut the hood. Not sure what hood scoop to use. Any suggestions?? I was thinking an old school snorkel or the ford thunderbolt style (teardrop).

Awesome car
Awesome build Dave. Looking forward to making some passes with you next summer.
Highly recommend some chassis dyno time prior to taking it to the track. You know who to call.

Dave, anymore pics thats a Bitchin looking Olds you have. As far as a scoop thats a tough one, maybe mock up something out of cardboard to see how it looks. I always liked a Z/28 type cowl hood myself. I think Zed has one on his 62 ? F85. I think pics are on his site. Old school snorkel might slow it down LOL Really nice job on the wheel wells, looks like it came that way !

Thanks everyone for the comments. I have not had much of a chance to work on the Starfire until now. Attached is a picture of the engine since I mounted the vacuum pump, alternator and crank trigger. I will start on reassembling the front end shortly. I'll post pictures when completed.

Well I got the front end together. I fabricated mounts and installed only the upper bumper section. This should shed 50 lbs. I also installed signal lights on the grill. Next will be installing the rad and tranny cooler then the wiring will start.

The car is progressing well. All I have left to do is finish installing the exhaust, wiring and a few odds and ends. I went with a 4 inch cowl hood scoop. The hood needs a final block sand and paint. I should have the car finished by the end of the month and ready for the track.

looking great
Dave the car looks stunning & I am pumped to see it run.
I will be at opening weekend in Medicine Hat on May 23-25. If you make it to Medicine Hat maybe pit over by the return road & we can hang out. I will be in my usual spot half way up the return road.
I am considering going to Edmonton for the last weekend in May also so if you do not make it to the Hat I hope to see you & this bad *** ride in Edmonton.
Best of luck no matter what & keep us updated on the times it runs.

great
That's great Dave. Fingers crossed that Mother Nature is good to us.
See you there. Still not sure if I am running the '72 442 or the '87 442 but so long as the weather is good I am there. Hoping we get some side by side passes in.
