1956 super 88
So its almost time to get back to the 56 I bought a few years ago. Progress stopped when I found the 64 442 but now that it is running and driving it is time to put a plan together and start ordering parts for the 56. Things have changed some since I purchased this car, namely our wonderful governor has decided to significantly raise our property taxes. So we will be looking to move sooner than planned and I would like to have this car running before we move. I had originally planned on swapping a 394 into this car but I dont think that is feasible now. I do have a good 455 and 2004r trans that would make this car a great cruiser. I have seen 455’s swapped into cars from the 50’s before, fabricating mounts is not a big deal as I have the tools to do so. I am guessing exhaust is going to be the biggest hurdle to overcome. The other option is rebuilding the original 324, but it is stuck so I am guessing $5000 for a rebuild. I really don’t want to spend that as I will be purchasing another home in the next year. I would like to hear from anyone who has done this swap and can offer any tips, thank you

Easy swap. Mounts are simple, trans mount is only around 8-9 inches long, going to the flanges on the X member. Exhaust is not a problem, either, lots of room for it, even headers. I used cheap stainless headers from Ebay, and built an unusual exhaust using them, and had no problems. Good luck!
