1968 Cutlass Buckets questions

Morning!
Wondering if all the A body buckets are the same in regards to fitment, size, seat backs the same? For instance, if I bought a set of GTO buckets are they the same except for the covers / pattern? Could I reupolster the GTO ones to be the same as original Cutlass buckets?
Thanks

Yes, but...

1968 buckets have the side release button, 69-72 have the release button in the middle of the seatback. Also, headreasts were optional in 68, federally required from 1969-up.

'68 should be the same for all GM A bodies. As well, '69-'72 should be the same for all GM A bodies. But '68 is different from '69-'72 as described by Joe.

You can surely install '68 buckets in a '69-'72 car (I have '68 buckets in my '69 4-4-2 because I wanted the reclining passenger bucket seat, which was available on Olds A bodies in '68 but not '69). If you are looking for authenticity, though, you should keep them separate.

One of the other guys can confirm or correct this comment. But I believe the 1967 GM A-Body buckets are the same as 1968 with the exception that the seat back and side skirts are metal in 1967 but plastic in 1968. If this is correct that will give you a wider field to search in and if you want to swap out the metal for plastic when you rebuild them you can. John
