I need to replace all of my window channels because they are severely cracked and im afraid water is pooling in the bottom of the doors or elsewhere and rusting things. I am at a stage in my restoration where i'm mostly concerned about stopping water from getting inside so this is important to me

I went to my local classics restoration parts store and they said I should go with a kit instead of trying to buy a strip and cut it. My questions are, where could I possibly find such a kit, and how would I go about doing this?

Also, if there is anything else I should do/check while the doors are apart I would like to know so I dont have to do it again in the future.

 

If anyone can help with this it would be much appreciated. I'm having a lot of difficulty finding a felt kit

Make sure the bottom of the doors inside are CLEAN, then paint them with POR-15, Master Series or some other rust preventative. Be sure the drain holes are open.When re-assembling, be sure to use some good water proofing behind the door panels. If necessary, make your own from some heavy plastic sheeting.

 

Andres, a kit for a 65 Impala or full-size Pontiac should be the same as an Olds 88.

Fusick or other Olds vendor should have the dust seal strips that cover the drain slots and keep dust from getting into the doors. Clean out all the 47 years worth of accumulated debris and then use a garden hose with high-pressure nozzle to flush out the drain slots.

You can get strip caulking at Lowe's, Home Depot or similar. Look for it in their weatherstripping section. The strip caulk is very similar to what the factory used to stick the water shield to the car's door structure.
