Cigaret lighter

Ok, this may sound stupid, but how the hell do you remove the lighter? There has to be a easier way than yanking half the dash apart?

I am trying to get mine back in...I bought my Olds from my deceased fathers ex-*****, and I found it in the glove box, can't see the wiring that it needs to be plugged into, so I could use any help getting mine back in, but I don't even think that it is all there...how is it held in the dash?

First, unhook the negative battery cable. Then reach up under the dash. The cir lighter is a two piece nested assembly (like those Russian dolls). When you can get ahold of the assembly, try rotating it CCW. You may have to hold the inside part from the front to keep the whole assembly from turning. Oh, if it is hooked up you will want to remove the power wire, should be a normal plug hook-up.

So you have to remove all the floor vents to get your hand up there I take it?

Maybe, it's been too long since I've had a '70. With a 68 you don't have to, but it makes it easier, esp. if you have big hands.

On my 72 you can reach your hand and arm up in there. I had to plug my lighter back in the other week. Of course thats if your arm is somewhat skinny.

Well, I don't have skinny arms, so I have that against me. I will see if I can fit my fat arm behind the dash tomorrow and see what happens. Thanks for the responses!!

Keep your cell phone with you in case you get your arm stuck. Almost happened to me...
