I have a 1969 Cutlass Supreme Holiday Sedan (Four door Hardtop). Unfortunately watershields are not made for the doors of this car, so I will have to fabricate them myself. A few questions, what does everyone make theirs out of? I have heard to use butchers paper and plastic. Also what does everyone use for their adhesive? It looks like Fisherbody did not use adhesive at the top of the door, just around the sides and bottom of the door forming a U shape. Is there a reason that it is not sealed on the top edge?

Watershields?

You should be able to get new weatherstripping for your Oldsmobile; as well as, window felts. I replaced all of that for my 71 98. Check out these suppliers:

3M strip caulk to retain the shields. Works great.

 

He’s not speaking of weather stripping, he’s referring to the watershields. It is the paper like or plastic in some cases that is behind the inside door panels that is attached to the metal part of the door. The 3M strip caulk is excellent for this application.

 

Water won't flow out the top, so the factory didn't waste any sealant on that task.

 

Later model cars use heavy gauge plastic sheet instead of the coated paper water shields. Unless you MUST have correct shields, just cut your own from plastic sheeting. I'd use 6 mil.

 

Well 6 mill plastic and 3M strip caulk is what I will be going with. Thank you everyone for the advise.
