Speedometer faceplate id

I hadn’t noticed this before, but the odometer on my 68 cutlass is below the center line of the face plate vs. above. I think this is an incorrect speedometer for my car. I need a new faceplate, as I faded the numbers accidentally while cleaning it. Which speedometer do I have? I’m guessing the speedometer was replaced at some point? All of the 68 Cutlass faceplates I can find have the odometer above the center of the faceplate It’s not from a 67 because the numbers are painted right on the face plate. Any idea where I can get a replacement face plate fir the speedometer pictured below? Does anybody have a nice 68 Cutlass Manual trans speedometer they would like to part with?

That is a correct 1968 speedo. The cable should screw onto the back. The 1969 speedo has the odometer above the centerline and uses a clip-on speedo cable.

Interesting; I never really thought about this. The 1968 Olds 98 that I gutted for the motor in my cutlass had a factory speed alert speedometer. It had the odometer above the centerline like the later speedos. I converted it into a cutlass speedo (modified the housing) to go along with a rally pack I had at the time. After looking online, it appears the regular 1968 98 speedos had the odometer below the centerline like the one in this thread.

So, my question: Did all 68 (cutlass included) speed alert speedometers have the odometer above the centerline (I asume to clear the gears for the adjustment stem)?

Here are some pics of that speedo:

Yes, the 68 speed minder had the odo above the centerline, but the regular speedo had it below.

Thanks for the info guys. If I have trouble finding a 68 Cutlass speedo or faceplate with the odometer below the center of the faceplate, is there another model year Cutlass or a different Olds that will work?

Anybody have a face plate or Speedo for sale matching my picture at the top of the post with the odometer below centerline of the faceplate? Even if it’s not functioning, I just need the face plate..

Thank you!
