1698 Speedometer

Does anyone know if a 1970 Speedometer is the same as a 1968 Speedometer?

LOL 1698 speedo in the title caught my eye! Chariots and boats with speedos.... hmmm novel concept.

The 1970 speedo IS different from a 68. The general appearance and mounting are significantly different. They were however identical for 68/69 models. The 1970-72 speedos are also identical.

Not sure whether that means they were no different, or no, they were different. That's why I chimed in.

My gear indicator is broken on my 1968 Cutlass Speedo. My friend has a 1970 Speedo he said I could use parts from. Is it hard to change the gear indicator with the little spring that is on it. Does anyone know how to do this that can explain it to me so I do not destroy my Speedo? Thanks ...Todd

Well, the first problem is that you didn't tell us what model you're talking about? An A-body is different from a B/C-body is different from an E-body.

Yes it is a Cutlass so regardless of what kind of Cutlass it is an A-Body.

To pick nits: among the MANY differences between 1968 and 1969... the cable has a threaded attachment to the '68 speedo, vs a slip-on + clip system for 1969+

However, if the PRNDL needle is its only issue, that's an easy fix.

Can you please tell me how to fix it as I do not know how to remove it and replace it with the new gear selector and spring. Thank you...Todd
