Listing Wire on Seat Foam

Some seat foam sellers list two different foam packages for a '69 442 front bucket seat; one says it's for "Listing Wire" applications. Are they interchangeable and how do I know if I have Listing Wire in my foam?

Thanks,

Buddy

Message forum member RAMBO. He rebuilds seats, and sells components if you want to do it yourself. I bought stuff from him and he gave me great advice when I rebuilt mine. He knows his stuff and you won’t regret it.

They are referring to the buns with channels and buns without channels. (The channels are where the listing rods/wires go to pull the covers bolster tucks down to the frame giving them the definition instead of just being flat.
I "think" 68 & 69 only had one style seat cover which used HALF channels.... VS 70-72 which had two different cover styles, one that used the half channels, and the other that had no channels.

Here is a thread I made last year showing how to modify a set of No-Channel buns into half channel ones...
https://classicoldsmobile.com/forums...t-buns-163575/
but you can also use full channel buns as well, and just wedge some batting into the un-used half of the channel before pulling the cover the rest of the way on.
I think most people & shops just get the buns with no channels and just install them without the listings & no tucks... but It just doesn't look right to me when done that way.

Here are two examples done right with half channels:
1970 "S" style covers (these are actually the finished product from the thread above)

And a set of 68's I helped a friend of mine do long distance for his H/O, also done with the no channel buns modified into the Olds style half channel buns.

Without the listing rods being attached through the bun, the covers would be completely flat without the tuck definition for the upper and lower bolsters.

Hope this helps!
Ben

Seats

Thanks for the info Ben! I've ordered Legendary seat covers for the front buckets along with a set of half channel buns; no listing wire. I should be OK, correct?

Legendary offers kits that will have the paper coated listing wire, hog rings, foam, cotton batting, and burlap. Go to legendarys website and watch the tutorial videos on how to redo your buckets.
I did it myself on 68 seats as a first timer with no experience and they came out great. —Billy
